The Civil Service Employment Office is now accepting applications for the position of Wastewater Lab Supervisor Open to the general public and to all City of Zanesville employees. Please read the job description below for minimum qualifications for this position.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: five years of experience in a wastewater laboratory or equivalent training and education. Demonstrable ability or training to supervise others.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Class III Wastewater Operator's License, or a Bachelor Degree in Biology or Chemistry will be equivalent to the wastewater license.
Class II Laboratory Analyst License.
DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
Under direction, supervises and coordinates Wastewater Laboratory and ensures tests and documentation comply with EPA requirements and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises and coordinates Wastewater Laboratory operations. Schedules lab testing and sampling and supervises lab staff in performance of job duties and responsibilities. Maintains laboratory and test quality control and assurance. Prepares and implements chemical hygiene plan for laboratory.
Assigns lab tests and other work tasks, provides direction and training, establishes priorities, approves leaves and overtime, develops job methods and lab procedures, appraises performance, hires interns, and maintains authority to give verbal and written reprimands. Handles work complaints and problems. Maintains responsibility for ensuring that work is completed in accordance with safe work practices. Selects interns for employment.
Monitors testing procedures and documentation for compliance with EPA requirements and quality standards.
Analyzes water samples for metals. Performs NPDES tests.
Tracks laboratory supply inventory levels and monitors laboratory costs for adherence to approved budget.
Inspects lab equipment and ensures proper maintenance and condition.
Implements and directs new testing methods. Monitors regulations and prepares updates to laboratory procedures.
- Prepares ByPass, Health Department, Plant Operating, Sludge, Industry, County billing/surcharging, and other reports. Maintains test analysis results and records. Prepares reports, graphs, temperature charts, and industrial user bench sheets.
Interprets laboratory data to identify potential or existing plant operation problems. Confers with Wastewater Superintendent, plant operating personnel, and others to discuss pl
