Washington-Yuma Combined Communications 9-1-1 Communications Officer in Yuma, Colorado

Washington-Yuma Combined Communications Center (commonly called W-Y Comm or W-YCCC) is the primary public safety answering point (PSAP) for Washington and Yuma counties in northeast Colorado. We're here to help twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year, and dispatch all local fire, law, and EMS within both counties.  W-Y Comm serves an estimated 15,000 people spread out over our 4,893 square miles. Across this expanse, we dispatch for (4) law enforcement, (5) ambulance, and (15) fire departments.  We answer an estimated 40,000 calls every year. They're not all emergencies, though. We answer nearly all of the calls placed to our user agencies. Any call for the county jail or code enforcement is filtered through us.

This is a safety-sensitive position, exercising a high degree of trust and confidence, delivers emergency communication information, and receives calls and dispatches personnel and equipment for the purpose of providing public safety service and assistance to citizens. Employees in this classification must be able to exercise considerable judgment within established organizational values, policies, and procedures to provide for the safety of citizens, effective service delivery, and quality customer service.

The communications officer is responsible for receiving all calls to the Communications Center, analyzing the calls, and determining the appropriate need for response. He/she notifies county law enforcement, fire and/or ambulance personnel of requests for service, and follows through on all responses. He/she answers to the Director, or his designee.
