Job Summary
We are seeking a Surveyor Helper to support survey crews on utility-scale and commercial solar projects. This role assists with field measurements, data collection, and site layout to ensure accurate placement of solar infrastructure. Ideal candidates are dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Assist surveyors with field measurements and layout for solar arrays and related infrastructure
Set and mark stakes, flags, hubs, and control points
Carry and maintain surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, levels)
Record measurements and field notes accurately
Clear brush and assist with line-of-sight setup as needed
Follow safety protocols and job site procedures
Travel to multiple job sites as required
Perform general labor tasks to support survey operations
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred
Previous construction, survey, or solar experience a plus (not required)
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Basic math skills and attention to detail
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Willingness to travel and work overtime when required
Preferred Skills
Experience with GPS or surveying equipment
Knowledge of solar site layout or civil construction
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Must comply with PCL’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by PCL.
Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
Able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. PCL policy requires getting assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.).
Must work all hours needed at the jobsite and possible weekends with short notice.
Safety/Environment:
Knowledge solar construction site hazards which may require special precautions and PPE. Knowledge of power generating plant and cement plant hazards and special PPE.
Must undertake the appropriate safety/environmental training commensurate with the position and location.
Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures as needed or directed in a safe manner.
Must be able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels, and permits in English.
