Location: Yuma & La Paz Counties, Arizona\ Department: Customer Service\ Reports To: Executive Director\ Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (2025 hours/week)\ Languages: English required; Spanish strongly preferred due to the populations served
Position Summary
The Community Outreach Coordinator helps connect people with disabilities to services, resources, and support in the community.
This role focuses on outreach, education, and relationship-building. It is not a case management position.
What This Job Is Really Like (Please Read Before Applying)\ This is a highly interactive, community-based role. A successful candidate will:
- Spend significant time in the community networking and building relationships
- Regularly present to groups and speak in public settings
- Work independently outside of an office environment
- Consistently document outreach and consumer interactions in a database
This position is not primarily office-based. If you prefer a role with limited public interaction or minimal documentation, this may not be the best fit.
Key Responsibilities
Outreach & Community Engagement
- Attend community events, health fairs, and outreach activities
- Build relationships with local partners and referral agencies
- Share information about SMILEs services
- Develop and deliver presentations, workshops, and community education to groups of varying sizes
- Represent SMILE in public and community settings
- Travel throughout Yuma and La Paz Counties
Additional Responsibilities
- Support outreach planning and coordination
- Assist with program activities when needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of outreach activities and consumer interactions in a user-friendly database (training provided)
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong communication and public speaking skills, including comfort presenting to groups
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule
- Valid drivers license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance
- Willingness to travel locally (SMILE provides rental vehicles for approved travel outside Yuma County)
- Comfort working independently in the community and managing time effectively
- Basic computer skills and attention to detail for maintaining consumer records in a database

- Is comfortable speaking in front of groups
- Can work independently with minimal supervision
- Is organized and consistent with documentation
Preferred Experience
- Outreach, community work, or public engagement
- Experience working with people with disabilities
- Lived experience with disability is strongly valued
