Sorenson Engineering Manufacturing and Quality Engineering III/IV in Yucaipa, California
Summary:
Develops, oversees, and improves manufacturing processes through observation, investigation, and evaluation of products and manufacturing methods. Provides quality oversight, support and expertise for production operations. Secures product quality through methods of measurement, quality plans/processes, and production improvement. Follows through on resolving product defects, non-conformances, and corrective actions. Collaborates with others, including technicians, engineers, and other departmental leaders.
Level I-Engineering Degree required, Hybrid Manufacturing and Quality engineering position supporting projects and processes of limited complexity. Determines tools and equipment needed to produce product compliant with customer needs. Documents manufacturing process instructions. Assists with equipment operation, conversion, and troubleshooting. Documents quality plans and assists with troubleshooting quality defects. Assists in the creation and management of quality inspection programs.
Level II-Engineering Degree required Hybrid Manufacturing and Quality engineering position gaining exposure to more complex projects and processes. Capable of performing all tasks of Level I. Provides troubleshooting support to operations. Seeks to maximize quality and efficiency through improvement projects of limited scope. Capable of self- directing daily work activities and promoting opportunities for improvement to supervisor and/or Technical Director.
Level III- Hybrid Manufacturing and Quality engineering position capable of being a key contributor to moderately complex engineering tasks focusing on improvement of manufacturing and quality processes. Capable of performing all tasks of Level I and II. Performs cost and time analysis on manufacturing processes in accordance with process optimization goals. Works collaboratively with team members, operational personnel, and the Technical Director without requiring daily supervision to solve complex manufacturing and quality problems. Seeks to resolve problems through sustainable process improvements.
Level IV- Engineering Degree required- Hybrid Manufacturing and Quality Engineering position capable of complex analysis of a specialist nature for the manufacturing operations responsible for. Capable of performing all tasks of Level I, II and III. Collaborates closely with the Technical Director, daily work tasks completed independently without the need for supervision. Provides technical expertise to less experienced team members and operational personnel.
Responsibilities:
Develops manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, testing, implementing, and improving manufacturing methods. Provides engineering support to Manufacturing, including day-to-day problem solving of process deficiencies and product defects as well as updating process documentation. Investigates, collaborates, and diagnoses to resolve production problems. Evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product requirements, material types, part features, machining processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards. Develops and improves methods for inspection and measurement, including Quality Plans for in-process and final inspection. Assures product and process quality by designing inspection methods and fixturing, testing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes. Familiar with chemical and physical properties of metals, including machinability, and how chemical and physical processes effect part features, i.e., dimensions, tolerances, and finishes. Confers with planning and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Familiar with AS9100 Quality Requirements. Knowledge of administrative procedures. Manages paper files and electronic records. Competence in Mic osoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of GDandT, good analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to interpret instructions both written and oral. Able to work in a team with co-workers to resolve work issues. Able to communicate effectively in English.
Education and Experience:
Levels I, II and IV require bachelors degree in engineering. Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Level III requires minimum of 10 years of appropriate technical experience with Sorenson Engineering.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to periodically walk and or travel to other areas of the plant, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with help, must have good eyesight and hand dexterity, and able to identify and distinguish colors.
Work Environment:
Within safety guidelines, there will be exposed to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat and/or skin.
