YWCA Camp Assistant Director in YORK, Pennsylvania

Summary:

This seasonal position directs YWCA York's Camp Cann-Edi-On summer (10-week) Day Camp program and all aspects of program operations. The position will be full-time during camp season and part-time during the off-season, on an as-needed basis. 

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * 

  • Create programming for the entire camp. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly themes and activities, and ensures that staff execute the plans. 
  • Oversee the supervision of camp staff. Staffing responsibilities include assisting with orientation, planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints while resolving problems
  • Evaluate the camp's programming and manage the scheduled activities. 
  • Assist with the training and implementation of camp activities to fulfill the needs of children and the community.
  • Ensure clear communication of YWCA policies and procedures to staff, children, and parents. Assist in relaying information to parents and community stakeholders about enrollment procedures, facility activities, and policies.
  • Maintain a positive, open relationship with camp families and ensure their program expectations are met.
  • Must assist in meeting all Department of Human Services licensing requirements, including maintaining staff and children's files, ratios, and facility compliance.
  • Explore external partnerships to improve campers' experiences.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with campers and serve as a role model for expected behavior.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Chief Program Officer and/or the Camp Director. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: * *

  • Oversee the staff during daily operations
  • Support staff with activities to ensure the children receive high-quality care and experiences.
  • Monitor staff to ensure daily procedures, policies, and expectations are followed and hold them accountable where warranted.
  • Assists in supervising the camp in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in elementary, early childhood, special education, child development, or the human services field is required.

At least 5 years of programming for school-age children and knowledge of camp are a must.
