Job Title: Asphalt Laborer

Summary/Overview:
Asphalt Laborer assists in laying, maintaining, and repairing asphalt surfaces by performing heavy physical labor like shoveling, raking, and smoothing hot asphalt, operating hand/power tools, preparing surfaces, directing traffic as a flagger, and ensuring site cleanliness and safety, often working outdoors in various weather conditions. Support machine operators and help achieve proper grade and thickness for roads, driveways, and parking lots.
Essential Job Functions/Requirements
Shovel, spread, rake, and smooth hot asphalt to grade, working alongside paving machines.
Operate tampers, vibrators, hammers, or other light machinery as directed.
Dig holes, fill washouts, remove debris, and clean tools/equipment.
Set up cones/barricades, act as a flagger, and post signs if needed
Load, unload, and move materials like sand, gravel, and asphalt.
Lute asphalt to proper grade and finish before compaction.
Smooth and adjust surface irregularities in asphalt to restore surface finish.
Assist the screed operator with maintaining the grade and screed extensions.
Take necessary precautions to ensure job is being done in the safest manner possible. Is
mindful of personal safety as well as safety of crew.
Safely and efficiently operates shovel/lute on paving projects.
Safely and efficiently operates blower, saw, and compactor plate to prepare job
sites for paving.
Effectively communicates with other crew members.
Works as a Flagger to direct motorists away from the work zone as needed.
Ensure site safety by installing barricades as necessary.
Assist with milling operations including shoveling millings and marking out utilities while milling
Adhere to all safety procedures, wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and ensure a safe work environment, often near traffic or in extreme temperatures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must have a minimum of (2) years experience in asphalt industry operating an asphalt rake/lute on construction projects
Must be able to lute asphalt
Capable of heavy, strenuous work, lifting up to 50 lbs.,
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment upkeep.
Good communication and teamwork.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
CDL a plus especially with tanker endorsement
General Information
90% of work is located within a 1-hour radius of our York, PA shop location
Residential, commercial and municipal work
Parking lots and commercial work. roadway paving for cities, PennDOT roadways and township roadways
Work in various environmental conditions, including hot surfaces and uneven terrain.
Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
