Educational Sign Language Interpreter – $50/hr – Yelma, WA – In-Person – 15 WeeksPosition Overview:
The Educational Sign Language Interpreter supports communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and those around them in the school environment. This role provides interpretation using American Sign Language (ASL), ensures student access to instruction and classroom activities, and promotes independence by helping students understand academic and social expectations.
Assignment Details:
Location: Yelma, WA
Start Date: 02/16/2026
Duration: 15 weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Hours: 30 hours per week (approx. 6 hours per day)
Pay Rate: $50/hour
Modality: In-person
Openings: 1 position
Details of Assignment:
Supporting a 1st-grade student
Interpretation for classroom instruction, activities, and communication with peers and staff
Virtual interview required
Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken English into ASL and signed communication back into spoken English
Facilitate classroom communication for instruction, discussions, and academic tasks
Support student independence by helping interpret classroom expectations and routines
Maintain confidentiality and follow all school and agency policies
Collaborate with teachers, families, and staff to ensure student communication access
Participate in meetings and training as required
Requirements:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, deaf studies, or related field preferred
State interpreter certification(s) as required (Initial Certificate, EIPA, RID, etc.)
CPR certification if applicable
TB screening and health certificate per state requirements
Must meet all federal, state, and local compliance standards
Must be at least 18 years old
