There is one opening with Yakima County, County Roads Department - Maintenance Division. The Road Maintenance Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment utilized in the maintenance of roads, right of ways or solid waste disposal sites throughout Yakima County.

Essential Duties:

Performs a variety of activities in the operation of heavy equipment on public roads and right of ways within Yakima County for more than 9 months per calendar year.

 

In the County Road environment, the equipment operated and duties performed includes: Dozers, Graders, Excavators, Mini Excavators, Backhoes, Loaders, and Chip Spreader. Responsible for shaping and maintaining roads, determining grade, roadside drainage, and removing snow.

 

Applies knowledge of driving laws and proper use of equipment, road building materials, basic survey principles, construction safety principles, Calculates grades and slopes of finished roads, establishes safe, passible roads and environmental regulations related to public roads, right of ways or landfills.

 

Respond to work site accidents, emergencies and hazardous spills to assess immediate concerns and respond to them with the required heavy equipment.

 

Monitor, control and direct activities at the job site, control flow and sequence of truck dumping.

 

Perform visual safety inspections of equipment, check, and correct fluid levels, refuel equipment, maintain equipment cleanliness, some preventative, corrective,
