Jacobs Land Surveyor Technician- Seasonal/Temporary in Yakima, Washington
Jacobs is seeking a Seasonal Land Surveyor Technician to support our Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) client. This role focuses on field data collection and inventory of stormwater assets located throughout highway rights‑of‑way across the region. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, value safety as a core responsibility, and demonstrate strong field awareness—especially when working near live traffic and active highway environments.
As part of our survey and asset inventory team, you will support stormwater system documentation and field verification tasks, including:
Performing field survey and asset inventory duties using instruments such as GNSS receivers, total stations, digital levels, and/or data collectors
Collecting location and condition data for stormwater structures (e.g., inlets, culverts, manholes, pipes, ditches) within highway rights‑of‑way
Applying WSDOT and industry‑standard surveying practices to support geospatial data accuracy and asset mapping
Assisting with establishment of safe work zones and traffic control setups for survey operations along highways
Supporting development of Site-Specific Safety Plans and participating actively in daily safety briefings
Maintaining clear and accurate field notes, either manually or electronically
Assisting with data editing, downloading, and basic office processing to support asset inventory databases and GIS workflows
Some Jacobs staff are co‑located with WSDOT, while field crews travel throughout the region and statewide. Co‑location provides excellent training opportunities and allows you to work alongside a collaborative team of both consultant and state professionals
This role is primarily a Seasonal Assignment based in Washington, with work occurring in the Vancouver, Yakima, and Bellingham areas. The estimated duration is 6-9 months.
Overtime: Eligible
Schedule: Standard 10‑hour workdays, Monday through Thursday
As a project-specific employee (Seasonal) , you are not eligible for severance pay under the Company's Severance Pay Plan and will not be paid severance pay at the termination of your project employment, irrespective of any prior severance-eligible service.
High School Diploma or equivalent
2+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects OR Associate Degree in Surveying and/or Construction
Valid Drivers license and required to have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
Ability to move up to 50 pounds
Ability to read and interpret roadway, structure, and bridge plans and specifications.
Ideally, You Will Also Have:
A valid Traffic Control Flagger certificate.
Experience in design, construction, traffic, materials, program management, or other transportation related types of work.
Experience with Bentley software products MicroStation (CADD), InRoads or OpenRoads (Geometric design).
Experience with Pix4d, Virtual Surveyor, Leica; Viva, Captivate, Infinity and LGO.
Experience in the Private or Public Survey field as a Lead, Tech, or intern.
