Akima Ground Support Equipment Mechanic in Yakima, Washington
Akima Field Operations is seeking a qualified Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic to support operations at the Yakima Training Center (YTC), Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). The GSE Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, replacing, adjusting, and testing wheeled vehicles and material handling equipment systems, subsystems, and components in accordance with applicable Army Regulations and Technical Manuals. Responsibilities
Diagnose the source of mechanical and electrical faults and determine the extent of required repairs.
Read, interpret, and apply Army Technical Manuals (TMs), schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Follow established service checklists and accurately document all maintenance actions and corrective measures.
Inspect, troubleshoot, test, and service systems including:
Air, fuel, and electrical systems
Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Brake and steering systems
Suspension systems
Air-conditioning systems (EPA Section 608 Certification preferred)
Perform in-process inspections and troubleshooting during repair and overhaul of engines, transmissions, and powertrain assemblies.
Utilize electronic diagnostic tools, test equipment, and software to identify and resolve faults.
Conduct maintenance on wheeled vehicles, trailers, power generation equipment, and material handling equipment.
Maintain accurate and legible maintenance records in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
Collaborate effectively within a team environment and communicate findings clearly.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Reports directly to the Section Lead.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of motor vehicle maintenance experience.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background screening.
Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Tier 1 investigation and Common Access Card (CAC).
Must be able to provide and use personal tools appropriate for the position.
Ability to read, understand, and apply technical manuals and schematics.
Physically capable of performing job duties, including:
Lifting a minimum of 30 pounds.
Pushing, pulling, carrying.
Stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
3–4 years of maintenance experience on military vehicles.
Prior service or experience with U.S. Army MOS 91 Series (e.g., 91B, 91F, or related).
Experience maintaining U.S. Army tactical vehicles and equipment.
EPA Section 608 or 609 Certification (A/C systems).
Working knowledge of U.S. Army maintenance procedures, including AR 750-1 and applicable technical manuals.
