Carrier EHS Global COE Director in Wroclaw, Poland
The Director – Global EHS Center of Excellence (COE) is responsible for leading the company’s global Environment, Health & Safety strategy through governance, compliance, and capability development. This role directs the Global EHS COE, ensuring consistent standards, policies, and programs across all regions, and directly oversees the global compliance and governance function. The position drives excellence in safety performance, environmental stewardship, chemical management, sustainability, and security while supporting the company’s broader operational and ESG objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Governance
Lead the Global EHS Center of Excellence (COE) , providing vision, strategy, and leadership to drive world-class EHS performance across all regions.
Define and implement the EHS Global Governance Framework , ensuring consistent policies, programs, and reporting systems.
Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership, providing expert guidance on EHS risks, compliance trends, and emerging sustainability priorities.
Ensure alignment between global standards and local execution through strong collaboration with regional and site EHS teams.
Functional Oversight
The Director directly leads the following global functions and teams:
Health & Safety: Global policy development, safety culture programs, injury prevention initiatives, and occupational health standards.
Environment: Environmental programs, compliance with global environmental regulations, and oversight of site remediation and waste reduction activities.
Chemical Management: Global chemical governance, regulatory compliance (REACH, TSCA, GHS), and chemical risk mitigation systems.
EHS Management Systems: Ownership of global standards, certification processes (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001), and continuous improvement methodologies.
Sustainability and EHS Digital & Analytics: Development of metrics, dashboards, and digital platforms enabling data-driven decision-making and ESG reporting.
Security: Oversight of physical security policies, global risk assessment, and coordination of incident response frameworks.
* Compliance and Risk Management*
Lead the Global EHS Compliance & Governance Function , ensuring conformity with international, national, and local regulations.
Implement and monitor EHS performance metrics , audits, and management reviews to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
Drive proactive risk identification, assessment, and mitigation across business units.
Oversee global incident reporting and ensure root-cause analysis and corrective actions are effectively executed.
People Leadership and Culture
Build and lead a high-performing global EHS COE team, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.
Mentor regional EHS leaders, strengthening the organization’s technical depth and leadership pipeline.
Promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility at all levels of the organization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, HR, and Sustainability teams to integrate EHS into business processes.
Support Corporate Affairs and ESG reporting teams in providing accurate EHS data and narratives for external disclosures.
Represent the company in regulatory and industry forums, maintaining active engagement with key stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
12+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in multinational organizations.
Proven track record in leading global teams and managing cross-functional EHS programs.
Deep knowledge of international EHS regulations, standards, and best practices.
Demonstrated experience in EHS compliance, governance, and risk management.
Experience with EHS digital systems, data analytics, and sustainability frameworks.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence across cultures and levels.
Fluent in English; additional languages a plus.
