Position Summary:
CVS Health is looking for a dynamic and driven Senior Engineering Manager to lead front-end engineering teams focused on building best-in-class digital experiences and delivering complex enterprise initiatives in close partnership with business stakeholders. In this role, you’ll lead multiple engineering teams and be accountable for both people leadership and execution excellence, developing strong engineers while driving predictable, high-impact delivery aligned to business outcomes. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and Architecture leaders to shape strategy, remove friction, and ensure teams consistently deliver results at scale.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead and develop multiple engineering teams (8–20+ engineers total scope)
Partner closely with Product, Design, and Architecture to shape roadmaps and technical direction
Improve execution predictability, quality, and velocity across teams
Establish strong engineering practices (SDLC, testing, observability, reliability, operational excellence)
Create a healthy, accountable, high-trust team culture where individuals and teams can realize their full potential
Manage cross-portfolio dependencies and stakeholder alignment
Use data and metrics to inform decisions and continuously improve outcomes
Manage, support, and evaluate engineers’ performance
Hire new talent for the team and offer coaching and development opportunities
Communicate and collaborate with other managers, stakeholders, and contractors
Provide input in strategic technical decisions and solutions, when needed
Provide technical guidance & support in all phases of SDLC
Ensure delivery of high-quality products
Identify production and non-production application issues
Evaluate information and solve complex problems
Understand complex systems and pay attention to details to avoid issues and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Be an advocate of security best practices, champion and support the importance of security within engineering
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of overall IT/development experience on building enterprise class frontend applications to support member facing web applications
2+ years of experience in a management role or leading software development team directly or indirectly which includes FTEs and onshore/nearshore/offshore consultants
2+ years of experience with modern web/mobile/cloud architectures and distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of SDLC best practices, CI/CD, testing strategies, reliability, and performance
Experience driving operational excellence (incident response, RCA, stability improvements)
Experience in SAFe Agile work environments
Proven experience leading multiple teams or a portfolio
Demonstrated ownership of delivery for complex, cross-functional initiatives
Track record of improving team performance through process, coaching, and systems thinking
Experience with AI/ML or emerging technologies
Bias toward action and accountability
Strong prioritization and decision-making skills
Comfortable having tough performance conversations
Experience influencing without authority across teams
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Data-driven mindset (uses metrics to guide improvement)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$118,450.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
