Position Summary
The Executive Director of Capital Project Planning is responsible for leading the planning, governance, and delivery of construction programs across CVS Health’s asset portfolio. The role oversees three core functions—Construction Program Management, Construction Project Management Office (PMO), and Construction Vendor Management—and serves as the enterprise partner for business‑led capital initiatives.
Operating at the intersection of project planning and program execution, the Executive Director translates enterprise priorities into structured, executable construction programs. The role provides leadership across multi‑year initiatives and manages annual capital portfolios ranging from approximately $200M to $600M, depending on enterprise priorities and investment plans.
The Executive Director is accountable for disciplined capital management, program governance, effective program delivery, and building a high-performing team that is best in class.
This role may be based anywhere in the United States, with a strong preference for candidates in the Central and Eastern time zones.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the planning and execution of construction programs supporting new initiatives, ongoing portfolio needs, and compliance requirements
Partner with business and functional leaders to translate enterprise priorities into deliverable construction programs
Provide oversight of capital planning, forecasting, and budget management to ensure financial discipline and alignment to approved investment plans
Establish and manage program‑level governance, reporting, and risk management across large construction portfolios
Shape delivery models, processes, and standards to support consistent execution and improved outcomes
Oversee construction vendor strategy and performance, including coordination with architectural, engineering, and construction partners
Build strong working partnerships across planning, design, construction, finance, real estate functions and internal business leaders
Lead and develop a strong planning organization, including people leaders and cross‑functional teams
Operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment, managing competing priorities and adjusting to changing business needs
Required Qualifications
The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, and be able to be highly productive in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the company’s business, as well as significant interaction with all the business leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:
10+ years of experience in construction, capital project planning, or program leadership within retail, healthcare, or similarly complex environments
Demonstrated leadership experience managing organizations with people managers
Experience establishing governance models, planning processes, and performance reporting
Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and leadership levels
Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving capabilities
Ability to manage complexity, set clear direction, and drive accountability
Demonstrated commitment to high standards of execution, quality, and performance
Experience managing large, multi‑year capital portfolios in excess of $200M annually is strongly preferred
Ability to travel 20-25% of the time
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field or equivalent (required)
Master’s degree (preferred)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
