Saint-Gobain Maintenance Mechanic III - 2nd Shift in WORCESTER, Massachusetts
NOTE: This is for the SECOND SHIT schedule which is Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm.
The Maintenance Mechanic III is responsible for the most complex troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance for all facilities, manufacturing and production equipment and systems, to include areas of low voltage electrical, hydraulics, carpentry, fabrication, machining, welding, plumbing, vacuum, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and/or other general facilities mechanical disciplines. Also leads the installation, dismantling, or movement of machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings. Must understand the basic principles behind Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Materials & Products
Troubleshoots and diagnoses a vast array of sometimes complex and aged mechanical tools and equipment and determines the most appropriate method and parts required to effectively complete the given job.
Utilizes knowledge of the particular intricacies of various types of metals, chemicals, equipment and/or machinery properties and parts for preventative maintenance and repair duties.
May assemble, install and/or repair wiring, low voltage electrical and electronic components, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, pipe systems (i.e., pneumatic, hydraulic) unique machinery, and equipment.
Equipment
Removes and replaces defective parts for complex problems using hand /power tools, drills, welding equipment, wrenches, hoists, cranes test equipment, and/or varying gages.
Utilizes a broad skill level of a mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic in nature tools to repair and maintain most shop equipment.
Must be able to set-up and fabricate machine components on lathe, drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rulers, calipers, and micrometers.
Fabricates, assembles, and tests parts using a complete range of mechanical hand and power tools including precision measuring devices, instruments, and gauges, metal fabricating tools and welding torches.
Responsible for the preventative maintenance, installation, and/or repair of equipment through varying trade disciplines, using computer systems, as well as cross-functional responsibility as a Maintenance Machinist.
Procedures
Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems throughout the facility.
Analyzes, identifies, and corrects mechanical faults of improperly operating or inoperative machinery through varying trade and/or mechanical processes. Diagnoses mechanical problems by instrumentation, sound and visual observation and determines how best to resolve the problem by checking blueprints, repair manuals, parts catalogs drawing and from experience and expertise.
Inspects work of Maintenance Mechanics I & II to assure proper installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
Tests and runs-off machines to ensure proper operation and correction of the identified problem.
Records maintenance and repair work performed and the duration of time used per work order. Maintains equipment, parts and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
May be responsible for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) or the specific practices and procedures to safeguard employees from the unexpected energization or startup of machinery and equipment.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) along with related trade school education, apprenticeship and/or experience.
Previously demonstrated broad mechanical expertise understanding complex concepts related to machinery, electrical, hydraulic equipment, properties of metals, welding, and/or piper/plumbing functions required.
The ability to read and comprehend various diagrams, schematics and mechanical blueprints is required.
Knowledge of trade mathematics and machinist handbook formulas in computing and verifying dimensions in the planning, layout out, and final dimensional checking process.
Certificates and Licenses: Trade or Vocational certifications preferred. Other particular trade certifications or in-depth experience may be required, (i.e., HVAC/EPA certifications, weights & measures technology). Fork truck license required.
This position requires at least twelve months' work experience to become proficient in all phases of the job to work independently.
Complexity
Works from complicated prints, sketches, schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawing equipment repair manuals/sources, and specifications drawing from several years of experience and training. Responsible to design and implement a custom mechanic fix or “work around” to a problem.
Responsible for complex operations that involve advanced techniques, detailed work sequences, or high degree of precision.
High degree of interaction with customers and vendors regarding equipment intricacies and requirements.
Latitude of Judgment
Performs a full range of maintenance mechanic assignments using independent judgment to make decision requiring the application of procedures and practices to complex work situations.
Often absent of direct supervision, responsible for the complete process to diagnose, test, and perform corrective mechanical action on sometimes-aged equipment.
Exercises significant judgment in determining the methods and techniques required to solve complex problems. Researches and recommends improvements to equipment and processes in order to achieve optimum efficiency.
Works as a subject matter expert with responsibility for the training/mentoring/oversight of work for Maintenance Mechanics I & II.

Pay Transparency:

Provided is the local pay range for this position, which is $35.26 to $38.79 per hour, plus Shift differential of 2nd shift differential of $1.50 /hour, 3rd shift differential of $2.00/hour. This hourly pay rate offered can vary depending on location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
In addition to the hourly base, this position is eligible for a monthly incentive bonus payout as part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on team's performance, and is not a guarantee up to $487.52/month.
Additional Pay Incentives for This Role Include:
Shift Differentials (i.e. Hourly Rate plus 2nd Shift Differential of $1.50 DIFFERENTIAL/ hr.; Hourly Rate plus 3rd Shift Differential of $2.00 DIFFERENTIAL/ hr.)
