Job Title: Lifeguard Department: Health & Wellness

Reports to: Aquatics Program Coordinator Effective Date: December 2024

Schedule: As needed Remote Position: No

Job Summary:

As a lifeguard, monitor the safety of members in our pool and pool deck. Assist in First Aid or CPR on the premises.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

    Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Scan activity area continuously, taking occasional walks around the deck to ensure safety of the swimmers; respond immediately to an emergency using established emergency procedures.

  • Greet participants so that all feel welcome and comfortable and offer assistance as appropriate.

  • Enforce the policies and rules of the pool.

  • Set out equipment as needed (i.e.: lane lines) and clean up when finished so that deck area stays cleared.

  • Report any problems or concerns expressed by participants to the supervisor to ensure effective resolution and follow through.

  • Test water at regular intervals to ensure a safe swimming environment notify supervisor of problems with testing levels

  • Clean pool on an hourly basis as directed by pool protocol

  • Wear appropriate YWCA lifeguard uniform

  • Maintain a safe Aquatic Environment

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work with and respond to members, and to relate to people of diverse attitudes and interests.

  • WSI preferred but not required

    Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 15 years old.

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR certifications or YMCA Lifeguard or Star Guard or Ellis and Ellis Lifeguarding, BSA lifeguarding

    Physical Requirements:

  • Must be a skilled swimmer and able to pull weight through the water.

  • Must be physically able to rescue someone drowning or injured in the water.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
