Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties to support providers in delivering the highest level of care to patients. They play a crucial role in ensuring patients feel comfortable and often assist in explaining the provider's instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and notify the provider when the patient is ready.

  • Ensure all lab and diagnostic test results are in the chart prior to appointments.

  • Keep exam rooms appropriately stocked and clean.

  • Conduct initial patient assessments, including recording reason for visit, vital signs, weight, height, blood pressure, and temperature.

  • Verify current medications, contact information, and medical allergies.

  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist the provider during exams.

  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.

  • Instruct patients about medications and special diets.

  • Transmit prescription refills as directed.

  • Perform phlebotomy procedures.

  • Inventory and order medical, lab, and office supplies.

  • Follow up on diagnostics, medications, and blood results.

  • Provide wound care.

  • Utilize computer applications and update patient medical records.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience within medical assisting in a clinic setting in a primary care setting

  • Proficient in using EMR and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities.

  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and function well in a high-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Medical Assistant certification or higher (EMT, RN, LPN) preferred.

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

  • Knowledge of HEDIS and medical terminology.

  • Familiarity with Epic and electronic health records.

  • Experience in geriatrics and internal medicine.

Work Environment

The position is based in a primary care clinic located at Northside at Towne Center. The Medical Assistant will support two providers at a time, working alongside up to four other medical assistants. The office culture is described as calm and pleasant, fostering a positive work environment. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a 30-minute uninterrupted lunch break from noon to 1:00 pm. The role involves a mix of direct patient care and administrative tasks, with one day dedicated solely to administrative duties such as managing patient portal requests, refill requests, and chart preparations using the Athena EMR system. The clinic offers opportunities for career progression, including potential advancement to a Clinical Lead position or relocation to other sites.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woodstock, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
