Marine Biological Laboratory Seasonal Landscape/ Material Handling Staff in Woods Hole, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

• Under supervision: mow, weed, rake, hedge trim, plant flowers, sweep walkways and parking lots, remove litter, and upkeep outdoor furniture.

• Plant, feed, prune, and otherwise care for trees/shrubs around MBL campus.

• Assist the Shipping, Receiving & Mail Assistant when necessary, with receiving and delivering mail to and from the US Post Office and established MBL mail

• Receive in and inspect all packages to ensure no damage.

• Under supervision, assist in moving materials for labs to and from MBL warehouses

• Provide assistance to other departments as directed by Supervisor.

• Work inside buildings during inclement weather by sweeping, mopping, cleaning labs, etc., as directed by Supervisor.

• Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and drug test required. Worker must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with favorable driving record. Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and some evenings.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least sixteen (18) years of age at time of hire or a high school graduate. Previous landscaping experience preferred.

Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to follow instructions and maintain a high level of productivity. Ability to operate mowers, spreaders, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment. Ability to operate pallet jack. Training on equipment will be provided.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires heavy work (exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects). Worker must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, use fingertips, grasp, lift, talk, hear, taste/smell, perceive attributes of objects by touch, and perform repetitive motions. Worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach.

This position requires the ability to work inside, outside, in cold, and/or hot conditions. Worker is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and potential exposure to chemicals. Worker is potentially subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors or dust.
