POSITION PURPOSE
Product Development Engineer will support Tru-D projects and work within the R&D Team. This position will develop, lead and execute Tru-D test plans and protocols to launch new products. The position will support various Tru-D development activities and ensure milestones are met. Identify technical and project risks and ensure strategies are developed to effectively mitigate these risks. Requires strong self-starter mindset and accountability for driving results.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Develops test protocols and writes test reports, SOP’s and specifications
Identifies key quality attributes for components
Works with suppliers and subcontractors to gain alignment to specifications and independently manages communication with external third-party partners.
Develops, writes, and validates test methods to evaluate performance of prototypes
Executes product testing for development, characterization, validation and efficacy.
Will support the development of Tru-D electro-mechanical products
Represents PDI in customer interactions, must have professional appearance, courteous demeanor, and an energetic work attitude.
Technical interface with suppliers
Creates system development plans
Identifies technical and project risks and ensures strategies are in place to effectively mitigate risks
Drives continuous improvement & sustaining engineering activities for existing product lines.
Interfaces with customers and suppliers
Operates autonomously during external interactions
Ability to use multiple communication methods effectively; i.e. written, verbal, active listening, etc.
Make effective use of time during customer/supplier contact.
Develop consultative customer & supplier relationships.
Will spend portion of time in the field providing Engineering support to service organization and monitoring field tests etc.
Understands engineering-related business needs and competitive landscape
Develops ideas, concepts, and prototypes to solve problems and meet customer/consumer needs in new and superior ways
Identifies needs, gaps and opportunities
Identifies opportunities for cost savings and mitigates risks of obsolescence during product life cycle.
Plans own workload to ensure tasks and objectives are completed and collaborates as a participative team member to ensure R&D milestones are met
Provide technical input on product requirements and determine design criteria.
Conduct or assist feasibility reviews and make recommendations for technical solutions to achieve desired product specifications.
Manage (re)design and development activities related to electro-mechanical sub-systems of product line.
Makes and supervises production of prototypes for evaluation
Experience in or willing to learn component design including molded, machined, formed sheet metal.
Manage Design History Files in regulated environment and support regulatory submissions and compliance documentation.
Must be self-motivating and comfortable working independently / holds self-accountable for commitments and deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- BS (Mechanical, Electrical or closely related Engineering discipline)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic circuitry.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes related to electro-mechanical equipment, including metal / plastic component fabrication.
Knowledge of prototyping processes for mechanical and electrical components
Familiarity with UV and/or optical sensing methodologies a plus.
Experience in equipment design using 3D modeling a plus
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
5+ years plus relevant experience in product development, design, testing or manufacturing complex assemblies.
Experience in a regulated environment; preferably pharmaceutical, medical device or consumer products a plus.
Experience interfacing with contract or in-house manufacturing during development or production.
Experience with development and execution of test protocols on electro-mechanical equipment
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Strong interpersonal communication skills, excellent time management skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, decision making, written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams; able to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple projects of varying complexity;
Computer skills- MS Office, SolidWorks or similar CAD package.
Is able to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
Is able to plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
Knowledge of gated Engineering processes such as product life cycle, change management, and verification/validation activities.
Good communication and influencing skills are critical capabilities for the incumbent due to the cross –functional collaboration required with customers and project teams.
Strength in both oral and written presentation skills are a prerequisite to success.
WORKING CONDITIONS

SALARY RANGE:
- $90,000 - $115,000 annually
