Job Title: Specimen Processor I

Responsibilities

  • Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing to ensure accuracy.

  • Open specimens and pour off into secondary containers for analysis and testing.

  • Verify that patient demographic information matches the submitted test requisition form.

  • Enter patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.

  • Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results.

  • Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas.

  • Pack and ship specimens to appropriate testing facilities as needed.

  • Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples.

  • Resolve and document any problem specimens.

  • Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste responsibly.

  • Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of work experience in a related field.

  • Previous medical or production experience is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong data entry experience is required.

Work Environment

This position operates on a 2nd shift schedule from 6 PM to 2:30 AM, Monday through Friday, with rotating Saturday shifts every other week. A 10% shift differential applies for 2nd shift. A 30-minute lunch/dinner break is provided. Candidates must be comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-paced laboratory environment, including the potential for overtime. The position also requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work in protective equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wood Dale, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
