I CLASS TITLE: I MAINTENANCE WORKER II
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Public Works
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, construction, and repair of streets, public facilities, sanitation, utilities and parks; operates light and medium equipment, and heavy duty trucks. Work varies, individual judgment within prescribed standards and procedures required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Must possess the ability to operate a variety of light and medium equipment; Possess a CDL license with appropriate endorsements within one month of appointment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to lO0#s (greater with assistance), crawling, bending, stooping, climbing, walking and getting in and out of a vehicle or equipment; work is frequently performed in undesirable physical conditions of pollution, heat, cold and dampness.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, repair, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, streets, parks, facilities, water and sewer lines, and refuse collection; Operates and maintains light and medium equipment including tandem refuse trucks, street sweepers, front end loaders, rollers, snow plows, boom trucks, back hoes, and land fill equipment; may on occasion operate selected heavy equipment; uses a variety of hand and power tools; checks tires, oil, lubricant, water, lights, and fuel to equipment operated.
May drive and load refuse collection trucks, performs minor repairs to equipment used, patches streets, assists in the maintenance of airport, park, and recreation facilities; may schedule and plan sewer cleaning operations; may be required to be called out to assist during emergencies; performs other tasks as assigned.
Prepares minimal records of own activities; work is frequently performed in undesirable physical conditions of pollution, heat, cold, and dampness; duties involve physical work requiring lifting, frequently involving weights up to 100#'s, crawling and climbing; may be exposed to hazards and infectious wastes; contacts with others is incidental to performance of duties, requiring common courtesy and relaying information; work performed often requires care and use of proper safety equipment and procedures to prevent injury.
SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: - May act as a Lead
worker in refuse operation or seasonal employees as assigned.
