Actalent Software Engineer in Woburn, Massachusetts

Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Radar & Electronic Warfare SystemsOverview

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and test advanced software for complex, real‑time embedded systems, with a primary focus on multi‑function radar and electronic warfare (EW) applications. In this role, you will translate system‑level requirements into robust, modular software solutions, implement high‑performance C++ code, and contribute to secure, automated DevSecOps workflows.

You will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver mission‑critical capabilities that must operate reliably in highly demanding operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test advanced software for real‑time, embedded systems

  • Translate system and software requirements into detailed, modular software designs aligned with architectural standards and open‑system principles

  • Develop high‑performance, fault‑tolerant C++ software for mission‑critical applications requiring exceptional reliability and availability

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks to validate functional and performance requirements

  • Apply and continuously improve secure software development practices within modern DevSecOps pipelines

  • Participate in peer reviews of requirements, architectures, code, and test strategies to ensure quality and consistency

  • Author and maintain software design documentation, interface definitions, integration details, and test plans

  • Develop analysis tools to support performance evaluation, debugging, and troubleshooting

  • Investigate and resolve software defects using structured root cause analysis

  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across disciplines to develop innovative solutions for multi‑function radar systems

  • Design and implement digital signal processing (DSP) software across the radar signal processing chain

  • Integrate software components into hardware‑software systems operating in real‑world environments

  • Contribute to research, demonstrations, and prototypes exploring radar, EW, and RF convergence

  • Participate across the full software lifecycle from concept and architecture through deployment and sustainment

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

  • 5+ years of experience developing software for embedded or real‑time systems

  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++14 or newer) and best‑practice design patterns

  • Experience with multi‑threaded programming, memory management, and performance optimization

  • Proficiency in Linux‑based development environments

  • Experience integrating software into large, distributed software ecosystems

  • Strong experience with unit testing and system‑level testing

  • Proficiency with Git‑based version control workflows

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality tools

  • Ability to rapidly learn new languages, frameworks, and technologies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self‑directed, detail‑oriented work style with a focus on delivering reliable, high‑quality software

Preferred / Additional Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government security clearance

  • Domain experience in radar, electronic warfare (EW), RF, or aerospace and defense systems

  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) or mathematical modeling

  • Experience with GPU programming and high‑performance computing (e.g., CUDA)

  • Familiarity with RDMA and advanced networking concepts

  • Expertise with C++17 or newer standards

  • Experience developing embedded and cyber‑physical systems

  • Background in real‑time operating systems (RTOS)

  • Ability to translate and optimize MATLAB algorithms into high‑performance C++

  • Experience with DevSecOps automation frameworks

  • Familiarity with open architecture platforms and large‑scale test environments

  • Experience with complex sensor systems or system‑of‑systems architectures

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

Work Environment

This role operates within a hybrid work environment that supports flexibility while emphasizing results and collaboration. You will join a System Development organization dedicated to delivering advanced national defense capabilities and addressing challenges across the full system lifecycle from concept and architecture through deployment and sustainment.

Teams leverage Linux‑based development environments, GitLab or similar Git‑centric workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing and analysis tools. Work focuses on real‑time, embedded, and high‑performance computing systems supporting radar and electronic warfare missions in operationally relevant environments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woburn, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $150000.00/hr.
