Job Title: Grinder Operator
Job Description
The Grinder Operator sets up and operates grinding equipment to produce high-quality metal, aluminum, and plastic parts according to specifications. This role involves centerless grinding, precise measurement using micrometers and calipers, and careful monitoring of the production process to minimize scrap and ensure consistent product quality. The Grinder Operator follows blueprints and standardized procedures to support efficient, safe, and accurate manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities
Set up grinding machines and related equipment to run centerless grinding operations according to production requirements.
Operate grinders to process metal, aluminum, and plastic parts while maintaining consistent quality and throughput.
Read and interpret blueprints to follow the step-by-step process for each part and ensure all specifications are met.
Use micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances of parts throughout the production run.
Monitor parts during grinding to identify defects or issues early and take corrective action to avoid scrap.
Perform basic machine shop tasks, including deburring parts to remove sharp edges and improve finish quality.
Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain proper dimensions, surface finish, and production efficiency.
Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient machine operation.
Collaborate with team members and production staff to meet daily production goals and quality standards.
Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines when working with machinery and materials.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience operating grinders in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
Experience performing centerless grinding on production parts.
Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify part dimensions.
Prior manufacturing experience, particularly in machine operation or production roles.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow detailed process steps.
Basic math skills, including the ability to perform measurements and understand tolerances.
Strong attention to detail to identify defects and prevent scrap.
Ability to set up machines for production runs, including selecting proper settings and verifying initial part quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a machine shop environment with grinding, deburring, and related processes.
Familiarity with production workflows and meeting daily output targets.
Comfort working with metal, aluminum, and plastic materials.
Ability to pass a basic math skills assessment, if required.
Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot minor machine or quality issues.
Reliable work habits and the ability to follow standard operating procedures consistently.

Work Environment
This is a production and machine shop environment focused on grinding and finishing operations. You work with grinding machines and related equipment, handling metal, aluminum, and plastic parts throughout your shift. Standard work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the first shift, and 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for the second shift, with a pay differential for second shift. The role involves standing for extended periods, operating machinery, and using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. The environment follows typical manufacturing safety practices and procedures, with an emphasis on maintaining an organized and efficient work area.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woburn, MA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
