Robert Half Process Engineer in Wixom, Michigan
Description
A great Robert Half client is seeking a Process Engineer to develop, refine, and optimize machining processes for precision aerospace components. This role will focus on improving process efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and supporting new product introductions in a high-tolerance environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimize CNC machining processes (milling, turning, grinding) for aerospace components
Select tooling, cutting parameters, and workholding solutions for tight-tolerance parts
Create and maintain process documentation and standardized work instructions
Support new product introduction (NPI) from prototype through full production
Conduct root cause analysis for dimensional, surface finish, and quality issues
Improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and increase overall machine utilization
Perform capability studies (Cp, Cpk) and apply statistical process control (SPC) methods
Ensure compliance with AS9100 and other aerospace quality standards
Collaborate with programming, quality, and production teams
Assist with capital equipment selection, implementation, and machine validation
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
5+ years of experience in precision CNC machining (aerospace experience preferred)
Strong understanding of GD& T and blueprint interpretation
Experience working with tight tolerances (±0.0005” or tighter)
Experience machining aerospace materials including Titanium, Inconel, Aluminum alloys, and Stainless Steel
Working knowledge of SPC and quality management systems
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in aerospace manufacturing environments
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, SolidWorks or similar)
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
Experience with process validation and First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation
APQP or PPAP experience
