Job Purpose:

Progress Rail has a full time opening for an experienced engineer who has demonstrated ability to understand engine component manufacturing, testing and drive corrective actions for manufacturing and quality problems. Familiarity with design aspects of engine components is an added plus. The engineer will be responsible for carrying out required duties to support engineering, manufacturing and quality organizations. Work involves independent judgement, decision making, and creativity. Management is available to provide additional guidance for unusual situations.

Education / Training:

• MS or BS in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or equivalent

• College level training in theory and practical aspects of applied mechanics, metallurgy, heat and mass transfer and its applications

Sr. Project Engineer - Engine Systems

Key Job Elements:

• Work with engineering functions, manufacturing plant personnel, suppliers and others to implement process improvements, product improvements, cost reduction projects and support engine and engine component build programs

• Familiarity with welding, machining and assembly of complex parts and typical processes used for engine component manufacturing

• Perform engine troubleshooting, data collection and failure analysis following DMAIC process

• Author, implement and sustain engineering changes to improve product and process quality

• Support engineering evaluation of field failures and drive root cause and corrective action initiatives to solve customer problems

• Execute product implementation plans with supervisor guidance

• Coordinate technical discussions between production, engineering & quality personnel and drive corrective action implementation

• Special assignment as needed

• Travel as required

Qualifications and Experience:

• Experienced (7 or more years) in processing methods used in engine component manufacturing

• Good oral and written communication skills

• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

• Understanding of design / manufacturing processes

• Flexibility to quickly adapt to changing assignments

• Ability and willingness to travel as required, up to 20%
