Howmet Aerospace Quality Supervisor in Winsted, Connecticut

JOB SUMMARY

The Central Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Central Quality Department. leading various quality systems including, but not limited to, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), internal and external auditing, document control / change management, and supplier quality.

  • Influence-- delegates effectively; capable of explaining the “why” behind a recommendation or directive; advocates for the business; maintains approachability; deals with conflict and change effectively; persuades others to buy in to segment, plant, and team goals.

  • Organization and structure--plans daily; coordinates to deliver on time; ensures efficiencies while balancing priorities of multiple projects and stakeholder groups; has contingency plans

  • Communication and relationship--builds genuine relationships with associates; maintains ability to discipline constructively; connected to operators and shop floor; translates and disseminates information readily both up and down the chain of command

  • Ownership--accepts accountability for the performance of others and the business; inspires ownership and improvement in others; invites measurement; self-motivated; invents and implements ideas for improvement; committed to safety; works at a macro level, not merely focused on single tasks

  • Anticipation and Problem Solving--anticipates and identifies problems quickly; works with other functions to create solutions; ensures channels of communication stay open; owns the process of ensuring things function well; elevates issues as needed

  • Management and Engagement--recognizes associates for outstanding performance; invites engagement by curating work environment; develops and coaches associates from a strengths-based perspective; aligns talent to tasks; accelerates measurable performance with clear expectations, goal setting and milestones

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee Certified Operator program which includes Quality Training for Operators and Operator Audits

  • Oversee Data Management

  • Oversee Designated Source Quality Representative (DSQR) program

  • Oversee the management of MRB

  • Effectively communicate and reinforce commitment to quality systems and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Assist with the analysis of data and metrics, generate relevant reports and lead improvement initiatives, as directed.

  • Participate in the quality reporting and management review process.

  • Provide technical support to Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales.

  • Other duties, as assigned by the Quality Manager

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution, plus 5 years’ related experience and 2 years supervisory/leadership experience or associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or related field, plus 2 years related experience and 2 years supervisory/leadership experience

  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

  • Experience working with either ISO9001 or AS9100 QMS standards

  • Knowledge and experience with quality tools, such as CAPA, six-sigma, lean manufacturing, PPAP, FMEA, problem solving techniques, root-cause-analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of business practices and understanding the impact quality has to the organization

  • Interpersonal and supervisory skills, such as emotional competency, coaching, providing feedback, and evaluating performance of subordinates, and the ability to coach and motivate employees.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organization and project management skills to lead cross functional teams and improvements

  • AS9100/AS13100 Training
