Your Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated senior Water Resources Engineer / Environmental Engineer with experience in water resource. You will be part of the Water Resources Technical Team within Stantec’s Environmental Services Business Line, contributing to a wide range of water resources projects.

This role includes the opportunity to provide business development, manage water resources projects and water quantity and quality components of larger projects and will involve working with other experts in the fields of water, mining, environmental management, transportation, infrastructure and other disciplines on a variety of complex projects.

You will ideally sit within one of our regional offices (Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton or Whitehorse) but will work within the national water resources community.

Your Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and lead business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients

  • Assist in analyzing current and emerging technical issues, and implementing actions to proactively address market, business, regulatory, and/or economic issues

  • Identify new business opportunities and support the technical component of business development materials

  • Lead and manage water resources projects involving hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality components

  • Responsible for planning and conducting assignments/projects having broad scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult tasks

  • Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to intermediate and junior level staff

  • Provide expertise to internal and external clients to resolve complex problems and issues

  • Manage projects, mentor and guide water resources staff in a dynamic team setting

  • Apply technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues

  • Qualify as a Quality Reviewer and undertake Quality Reviews of deliverables

  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work

  • Assignments/projects are advanced in nature and require the application of mature knowledge

  • Demonstrate sound understanding and application of established practices, standards and guidelines

Water Resources Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and support water resources designs, proposals, and reports

  • Experience with water quality models such as CORMIX, Goldsim, QUAL2K, etc., and statistical software such as R is an asset

  • Mining experience including mine water balance models, mine water management plans and water management infrastructure designs

  • Experience with environmental flow needs assessments, fish habitat loss assessments and designs related to habitat compensation plans

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams on groundwater and surface water assessments, surface water compliance, contaminant investigations, environmental assessments and permitting applications, etc

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient skills in communication and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public

  • Experience managing projects in a consulting environment

  • Experience in providing supervision and mentorship to junior staff

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Strong business development, client management, communication and financial management skills

  • Self-motivated individual, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Proficient in, and consistently demonstrates and promotes policies and procedures for Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)

  • Advanced skills in technical writing

  • Champion new ideas and initiatives, and create an environment that supports creativity and innovation

  • Build and maintain productive professional and personal networking relationships

  • Drive collaborative efforts within the region and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent.

A Master’s or Ph.D. in engineering or relevant science is an asset.

Licensed Professional Engineer/Geologist.

Minimum 10 years of water resources experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
