Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The role of a Maintenance Mechanic involves performing and supporting mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, and fabrication work. The position coordinates and performs general repairs and preventive maintenance on processing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance on equipment.

  • Connect and/or disconnect motors.

  • Operate test instruments and tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, etc.

  • Perform basic stick and torch welding.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance on production equipment.

  • Oversee the activities of hourly Mechanics and Maintenance Helpers.

  • Maintain compliance with safety standards for equipment.

  • Promote safety and good housekeeping practices.

  • Ensure compliance with plant rules and regulations.

  • Install new equipment as required.

Essential Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong knowledge of processing operations.

  • Excellent mechanical and/or electrical skills.

  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Good planning and organization skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma with some technical school preferred.

  • 3-5 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience.

  • 2-3 years of experience in processing environment preferred.

Work Environment

This position is within a tobacco company where some areas have strong tobacco and flavoring smells. The production environment may be a bit cloudy or dusty when running, but conditions are generally manageable. The role requires working a weekend shift: Friday from 11 AM to 7 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 7 AM to 7 PM, and Monday 7 AM- 3 PM with OT available during weekday hours.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilson, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $29.00/hr.
