Job Description

This contract position supports a large biopharma construction project by providing dedicated spotting and safety support for pipefitters performing overhead work. The role focuses on maintaining a safe work area, monitoring activities around elevated operations, and helping ensure compliance with site and OSHA safety standards over a four-month assignment in Wilson, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and spot pipefitters performing overhead work to help maintain a safe work area at all times.

  • Continuously observe the surrounding area for potential hazards and immediately communicate any safety concerns.

  • Support safe movement of personnel, tools, and materials around active construction and overhead work zones.

  • Follow all site-specific safety procedures and OSHA guidelines while on the project site.

  • Use clear, timely communication to warn workers and others in the area of potential risks or unsafe conditions.

  • Collaborate closely with pipefitters, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate safe work practices.

  • Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout each shift.

  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and other safety-related meetings as required.

  • Report incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions according to site protocols.

  • Support general site safety and environmental health and safety (EHS) initiatives as directed.

Essential Skills

  • Current OSHA-10 certification issued within the past 5 years.

  • Previous experience working on construction sites.

  • Strong focus on safety, health, and environmental awareness in an active construction environment.

  • Ability to remain alert and attentive while spotting overhead work for extended periods.

  • Effective verbal communication skills to provide clear directions and warnings.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player in a fast-paced site environment.

  • Consistent and reliable attendance for scheduled shifts, including potential overtime.

Work Environment

This role is based on an active construction site for a biopharma project in Wilson, NC. You work primarily outdoors and in industrial facility areas around overhead and elevated work, with exposure to typical construction-site conditions such as noise, dust, and varying weather. The schedule consists of five 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with some Saturday work as needed, providing frequent overtime opportunities. You must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, which may include hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and steel-toe boots, in line with site safety requirements. The environment is safety-driven, structured by OSHA and site-specific EHS procedures, and requires staying alert, following instructions, and working closely with craft and safety teams throughout each shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
