What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities:
Support pharmacists by profiling medications and products.
Prepare and deliver medications and products as required.
Maintain adequate inventory of stock and supplies in accordance with regulations.
Proficiently access and utilize pharmacy electronic information and automated systems.
Rotate and work in all areas of the pharmacy as directed, maintaining competency across job functions.
Demonstrate proficiency in various skill sets, including:
Triage/IV premix
Automated dispensing cabinets/pre-packagers
Sterile and non-sterile compounding (including IV/total parenteral nutrition preparation)
Hazardous medication preparation
Assist in training and mentoring new pharmacists, technicians, residents, and students.
Provide feedback on the performance of trainees during their training sessions.
Requirements:
Flexibility to work primarily day shifts, with occasional evening or weekend hours depending on the position.
Willingness to maintain and expand skill set across all areas of the pharmacy.
What We're Looking For
Education : High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree (required for validating duties), preferred.
Experience :
2 years of Acute Care: Prior experience in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (examples may include but are not limited to the following activities: medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, validating duties and/or procurement)...OR...hired as a Pharmacy Tech II Certified, have 2 years experience in acute care and now competently performing a third pharmacy skill as described above, required.
2 years of Outpatient Oncology: Prior experience in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (examples may include but are not limited to the following activities: medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, and/or procurement)...OR...hired as a Pharmacy Tech II Certified, have 2 years experience in acute care or oncology setting, and now competently performing a third pharmacy skill as described above, required.
Specialty Pharmacy: Minimum of two years of experience in specialty pharmacy setting, required.
Licensure/Certification:
Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of Pharmacy, required.
PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire or proof of enrollment in pharmacy school (i.e., NCBOP pharmacy intern license or FPGEE/FPGEC, required.
A minimum of two relevant specialized certificates/certifications from approved vendors such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include but are not limited to, product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding)...or...one additional certificate/certification for technicians with Validating Tech credentials (NC). The additional certificates/certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as applicable. Not applicable if currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license, required.
Additional Skills (required):
State registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health career Association (NHA), or be actively enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license, or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Equivalency Certification (FPGEC).
Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.
Validating duties (NC only): must complete initial didactic and practical training prior to initial validation. Must obtain 99.7% accuracy rate on initial validation and 99% accuracy in subsequent audits.Not applicable if currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license.
Additional Skills (preferred): Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals. Experience with inventory management.
