Actalent Test Engineer in Wilmington, Massachusetts

Test Engineer – Robotics & Electromechanical SystemsOverview

We are seeking a Test Engineer to support the design verification, reliability testing, and validation of advanced robotic and electromechanical systems. This role is highly hands‑on and involves assembling test fixtures, bringing up validation rigs, developing automated test tools, and working closely with engineering teams to ensure products meet system‑level and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute structured design verification and reliability test procedures aligned with system specifications and customer requirements.

  • Assemble, instrument, and bring up test fixtures, validation rigs, and hardware test setups for robotic and electromechanical systems.

  • Support the development, improvement, and automation of test fixtures and validation tools.

  • Author, maintain, and update test plans, test procedures, specifications, and supporting documentation in collaboration with engineering teams.

  • Collect, analyze, and document test data, logs, and observations to support validation and manufacturing test efforts.

  • Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations for component, system, and integration issues.

  • Support repeatable and scalable test execution in both development and manufacturing environments.

  • Work hands‑on with motors, sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and integrated hardware during testing activities.

  • Use scripting and data analysis tools to automate tests and analyze results.

  • Communicate test findings clearly and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to recommend design or process improvements.

  • Contribute to the design and integration of test fixtures, using basic CAD tools as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in hardware test engineering for robotics or complex electromechanical systems

  • Hands‑on experience with electromechanical assembly and integrated hardware in robotics, automation, or similar environments

  • Experience supporting manufacturing and production test processes

  • Strong background in test engineering, including design verification, reliability testing, and hardware validation

  • Experience using test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems

  • Ability to develop and execute test procedures, test plans, and validation protocols

  • Hands‑on experience with motors, sensors, actuators, and embedded systems

  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting/data analysis tools

  • Familiarity with embedded systems and control theory concepts

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CANBus and Ethernet

  • Experience with microcontrollers such as ESP32 or Arduino, and programming in C/C++

  • Strong technical communication skills and ability to produce clear, structured test documentation

  • Familiarity with ROS or ROS2 and Linux‑based robotics environments

Preferred / Additional Qualifications

  • Experience working with robotic or automated equipment in development or manufacturing environments

  • background developing or improving automated test equipment (ATE) and validation tools

  • Basic CAD experience (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) for test fixture design

  • Experience performing hardware root cause failure analysis and structured problem‑solving

  • Comfort working with embedded system communication interfaces and protocols

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams

  • Interest in contributing to a fast‑growing robotics organization focused on innovation and continuous improvement

Work Environment

This role is based in a hands‑on lab and manufacturing environment focused on robotics and automated electromechanical systems. The position involves frequent interaction with test equipment, fixtures, validation rigs, motors, sensors, actuators, and embedded hardware.

You will work with tools such as Python, MATLAB, C/C++, Linux, ROS/ROS2, CANBus, Ethernet, and CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent). The environment emphasizes collaboration, practical problem‑solving, and continuous improvement across both lab and manufacturing test areas.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49.00 - $60.00/hr.
