Electrician Apprentice IV

The Electrician Apprentice IV is an advanced-level apprentice position designed for individuals preparing to transition into a licensed electrician role. This position emphasizes mastery of the National Electrical Code (NEC), advanced troubleshooting, leadership development, and readiness for state licensing exams. Apprentice IV team members are expected to work with minimal supervision, lead small teams, and support the development of junior apprentices while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrate proper use and care of hand tools and power tools
- Apply ladder safety and fall protection practices at all times
- Utilize a strong understanding of electrical theory (voltage, current, resistance)
- Identify materials including wire types, conduit, and fittings
- Apply NEC fundamentals with advanced code interpretation and layout
- Perform residential and commercial wiring methods proficiently
- Identify panels and execute circuit layout with accuracy
- Apply grounding and bonding principles in various installations
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints and job specifications
- Perform conduit bending (EMT, PVC) with precision
- Complete basic load calculations
- Install and connect motors and equipment
- Execute advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Apply NEC code requirements in real-world scenarios
- Install and service equipment and feeders
- Work with lighting controls and low-voltage systems
- Assist in job planning and introduction to estimating
- Maintain jobsite cleanliness and organization standards
On-the-Job Duties
- Complete rough-ins and trim-outs independently
- Pull wire, label circuits, and ensure system organization
- Install boxes, supports, and fixtures without supervision
- Perform jobsite cleanup and material staging
- Install receptacles, switches, and lighting systems
- Complete residential service upgrades
- Troubleshoot residential and commercial electrical issues
- Work safely with energized systems as permitted
- Run and terminate conduit systems
- Install commercial panels and electrical devices
- Prepare for and complete electrical inspections
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently
- Lead small projects or crews as assigned
- Train and mentor junior apprentices
- Assist with jobsite planning and material lists
- Communicate professionally with customers and team members
