Position Function and Purpose: Enhance the educational process by removing health barriers to learning through planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating health services in a specific school(s) assignment. Promote the health of the student body, staff, and school community.
Accountability:Reports dually to the District Nursing Supervisor and building Principal
Qualifications:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
Current BLS certification
1 year of RN experience required
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
Proficient computer skills: word processing, e-mail, and data entry into software platforms
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
Major Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Maintain the school health office to deliver comprehensive school health services according to School Nursing Standards of Practice, the state nurse practice act, and departmental procedures and protocols.
Provide case management of students with special healthcare needs, including administration of medications and special procedures according to medical orders.
Develop and train need-to-know school staff on Emergency Action Plans for students with potentially life-threatening conditions.
Provide episodic and emergency health care to ill or injured students
Maintain communicable disease prevention and control measures in accordance with state regulations, local health department protocols, district policies, and departmental protocol. Report communicable disease outbreaks to the district medical advisor, nurse supervisor, and, if applicable, the local health department.
Maintain student immunization and physical exam compliance.
Conduct state-mandated health and developmental screening.
Serve as a member of the interprofessional student support teams
Implement individualized health goals and interventions for students receiving special education services or Section 504 Plan accommodations.
Communicate and collaborate with students, families, community health providers, and staff in a culturally sensitive manner.
Document all student health information in the electronic health record according to state and department guidelines and procedures.
Maintain student confidentiality and privacy at all times according to HIPAA and FERPA.
Perform duties as a mandated reporter
Supervise and delegate to LPN/LVN assigned to campus according to scope of licensure under the nurse practice act
Collaborate with nurses contracted to care for individual students as indicated
Participate in continued education as required by the board of nursing and State Department of Education
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
Days: Monday - Friday
