Job description:
The Machinist is responsible for hands on fabrication, modification, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. Work is performed from written and verbal instructions, schematics, manuals, and work orders.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
MACHINIST (include, but are not limited to)
Apprentice Grade
Familiarity and ability to use basic measuring devices, such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, Rockwell hardness testers, etc.
Identify basic types of metals.
Read basic blueprints.
Stick welding and cutting
Operate pedestal grinder as well as selection of grinding wheel, and perform basic operations such as sharpening hand tools and drill bits.
Familiarity with capabilities and basic set-up and operation of basic machine shop equipment.
Understand math required to perform machinist functions.
Machine repairs such as simple shafting, bore gears, pulley, make bushings, keyways, guide rollers and other items to make equipment repairs.
Conduct visual, mechanical, and dimensional inspections of products to ensure conformance to specifications
Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify tolerances
Troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical issues to minimize downtime
Assist with installation, inspection, and preventative maintenance of production equipment
Read and interpret schematics, manuals, drawings, and technical documentation
Identify and report equipment malfunctions or quality concerns promptly
Maintain accurate production, quality, and maintenance documentation
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with safety policies
Follow all lockout/tagout and safety procedures during setup and maintenance activities
Participate in cross training and support team operations as needed
Respond effectively to unexpected equipment issues in a fast paced production environment
Intermediate Grade
Basic ability and/or knowledge in welding functions, materials, and procedures.
Test hardness of metals using a Rockwell Hardness Tester or comparable.
Skilled in fitting of parts, bearing fits, shafts, gears, etc.
Higher level of math (algebra, trig, and geometry).
Work from and draw sketches.
Higher level of machine repair skills, multi-stop shafting, threading, etc.
Basic use of Machinist Handbook.
Journeyman Grade
Proper selection of materials.
Proficient in welding techniques pertaining to machinist work and directing other craftsman in preparation of materials to be machined.
Proficient in heat treatment of metals including operation, annealing, tempering, case hardening, and quenching.
Proficient in use of Machinist Handbook.
Ability to repair machine shop equipment.
Given proper materials, tools, prints and specifications, be able to manufacture any part the machine is capable of producing.
Diagnose equipment problems, assemble and disassemble, level, align and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
Machine tips and dies to tolerance of .0005.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to prioritize, work independently, and maintain close attention to detail.
Ability to read/use precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers).
Mechanical aptitude and basic computer literacy.
Strong English skills in reading, writing, and verbal communication.
Willingness to work overtime as needed and function effectively in a team environment.
Ability to pass a background check, drug test, and physical.
Preferred
Prior manufacturing experience; extrusion/wire drawing/cabling experience a plus.
3+ years machining / tool and die experience (plant environment) desirable.
