Position Description & Qualifications

Hazmat Specialist

Cheatham Annex

Are you experienced in handling hazardous materials within a regulated logistics environment? Do you bring a strong understanding of safety, documentation, and compliance requirements? If so, this role supports critical hazmat operations at NMRLC.

In this role, you will support hazardous material receipt, storage, inventory management, shipping, and disposal. You will assist with hazwaste determinations, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and safety standards.

In This Role You Will:

  • Store and handle hazardous material safely.

  • Prepare hazardous materials for shipment and disposal.

  • Maintain hazmat documentation and system accuracy.

  • Assist with hazwaste determinations.

To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Have:

  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of hazmat experience related to the job description listed above.

  • Knowledge of hazmat regulations and procedures.

  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification.

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to meet Government suitability requirements.

  • A current and active NACI and PIV Credentials which will require US Citizenship, and Active and Current Secret Security Clearance is preferred.

  • Active Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain within 30 days.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate approved delivery vehicles.

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate, audit‑ready documentation.

  • Successful background checks include fingerprint checks and drug screenings.

  • Have the ability to work on-site daily Monday through Friday while meeting our customers’ requirements at the Cheatham Annex, located near Williamsburg, Virginia

Preferred Qualifications

  • DoD hazmat logistics experience related to the job description listed above.

  • Familiarity with DMLSS hazmat records.

  • Valid forklift license (4K–6K and stand‑up forklifts) or ability to obtain.
