Key Responsibilities

The Facility Mechanical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency, reliability and safety compliance of all mechanical systems. This role focuses on system design, construction, new technology development, and continuous improvement of HVAC, process mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical infrastructure. The engineer works collaboratively with site operations, maintenance, and project teams to support daily operations and long-term capital projects.

Mechanical systems include:

  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems)

  • Chilled and Condenser Water including chillers

  • Hot Water including boilers

  • General Exhaust

  • Make-Up Air and Air Handler Systems including FCUs

  • Direct Expansion (DX) air handling systems

  • Process Mechanical

  • DI Water

  • Industrial Wastewater includes suspended solids treatment

  • Process Cooling Water

  • Plant Vacuum

  • Gases – CDA/N2/Forming gas

  • Plumbing

  • Potable and non-potable water systems

  • Storm/Roof and Sanitary Drainage

  • Condensate drainage

  • Fire Protection

  • Water sprinkler and hydrant systems

  • Smoke Exhaust

  • The key responsibilities of Facilities mechanical engineer:

  • Facilities engineering projects management:

  • Lead and manage mechanical-focused system expansion, retrofit and cost reduction projects from conception to completion (scope development, design, budgeting, scheduling, contractor management, system commissioning).

  • Review mechanical designs, plans, and specifications for new construction or renovations to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and operational needs.

  • Manage the assessment of mechanical system capacity versus production demand to support production ramp-up needs.

  • Specify and select mechanical equipment for replacement and upgrade projects.

  • Manages supplier’s performance to meet safety, quality and other TI requirements.

  • Facilities system reliability management:

  • Define and standardize the mechanical system specifications for facilities related operations.

  • Manage system stability dashboard to drive system performance improvement.

  • Respond to facilities disruption events, conduct root cause analysis and manage corrective and preventive actions.

  • Conduct system reliability risk assessment (FMEA), develop and implement improvement actions and roadmaps.

  • Facilities system operation efficiency improvement:

  • Analyze utility data and system performance to track key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce utility consumption.

  • Evaluate and implement Innovation and emerging technologies such as smart facility operation, AI/ML technologies.

  • Technical Support & Collaboration:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for mechanical systems for facility operations and other departments.

  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and structural engineers on cross-disciplinary issues.

  • Provide technical support for critical system emergencies, as required.

  • Develop and deliver training for operations staff on system functions and best practices.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or HVAC or equivalent experience.

  • 5 years or more experience in Semiconductor Facilities and/or Construction

  • Over 8 years’ experience in Facilities industry involving HVAC and/or process related systems

  • Ability to manage and direct technicians and contractors as well as coordinate multiple design and contractor disciplines on a variety of projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Communicate effectively verbally and written in English and Bahasa Malay;

  • Independent, self-motivated and ambitious of unquestionable personal professional integrity;

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong safety stewardship as well as exhibit skills and competencies to drive success with a highly critical facility system.

  • Sense of urgency to address mechanical interruptions and to coordinate with operations to restore systems back online

  • Should have excellent facilitation and communication skills necessary to interface with business partners, external suppliers, team members, technologists and peers. Must be able to build and maintain strong, positive and lasting relationships through collaboration.

  • Applicant should also have the following skills: leadership, effective communications, organizational, presentation and problem solving

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, able to create construction drawings, details, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), etc.

  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills necessary to interface with business partners, external suppliers, direct reports and team members

  • Systematic problem solving

  • Fire Protection and/or Process system operation skill

  • Familiar with mechanical and fire codes

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong safety leadership
