The CNC Plasma Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC plasma cutting machines to produce high-quality metal parts according to specifications. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read technical drawings to ensure accurate and efficient production.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC plasma cutting machines to cut metal parts based on blueprints and job specifications
- Read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and material lists
- Load and position materials on the cutting table using proper lifting techniques or equipment
- Monitor machine operations to ensure precision and quality of cuts
- Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, etc.)
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC equipment
- Adjust machine settings (speed, temperature, torch height) for optimal performance
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Document production data and report any issues or defects
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience operating CNC plasma or similar CNC machinery preferred
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
- Forklift or overhead crane experience
- Knowledge of different metals and cutting techniques
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment (heat, noise, dust)
Work Environment
- Manufacturing/industrial setting
- Exposure to sparks, fumes, and loud machinery (PPE required)
Schedule
- Full-time (may include overtime, evenings, or weekends depending on production needs)
