Job Title: Cafeteria Worker / Pizza Cook

Job Description

This role focuses on preparing and serving pizza and other food items in a cafeteria setting while maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and customer service. You will support daily meal service for students, staff, and guests, assist with basic food preparation and restocking, and help ensure that all food safety and sanitation procedures are followed throughout each shift.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook pizza and other assigned food items according to established portion, recipe, and presentation standards.

  • Serve food items to customers in a friendly, efficient, and courteous manner during meal periods.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food stations, serving counters, and surrounding areas throughout the shift.

  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces in accordance with food safety and sanitation guidelines.

  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as slicing, portioning, assembling ingredients, and setting up stations.

  • Stock and restock food items, condiments, paper goods, and supplies to ensure stations remain ready for service.

  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures, including proper food handling, storage, and temperature control.

  • Support closing duties by cleaning, sweeping, mopping, and properly shutting down food stations and equipment.

  • Communicate courteously with students, staff, and guests, addressing questions and requests related to menu items and portions.

  • Work collaboratively with other kitchen and cafeteria team members to ensure smooth and timely meal service.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience working as a cook in a foodservice or food industry environment.

  • Previous experience as a line cook or in a similar fast-paced kitchen role.

  • Ability to perform basic food preparation tasks, including portioning, assembling, and cooking items such as pizza.

  • Knowledge of basic food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact politely and helpfully with students, staff, and guests.

  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, including regular clean up during and after service.

  • Experience working within fast food or quick-service environments for at least 1 year.

  • Capability to follow written and verbal instructions, recipes, and portion standards accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a cafeteria, school foodservice, or institutional dining environment.

  • Familiarity with operating standard kitchen equipment such as ovens, warmers, and food holding units.

  • Ability to work efficiently during busy meal periods while maintaining quality and safety standards.

  • Strong teamwork skills and a cooperative attitude when assisting coworkers in the kitchen and serving areas.

  • Attention to detail in food presentation and station organization.

Typical attire includes appropriate kitchen or cafeteria clothing and footwear suitable for a foodservice environment, along with any required protective items such as aprons or gloves as directed by site policies.

This is a Contract position based out of Whitewater, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $13.00 - $14.00/hr.
