Position Summary
Otter Lake Technologies is a leading manufacturer specializing in high-volume metal casting, committed to innovation, quality, and environmental stewardship. We are seeking an experienced EHS Director to lead all environmental, health, and safety performance at our facility operating under an air permit in the Greater Twin Cities area.
This role combines hands-on environmental compliance leadership (including air permitting) with strategic safety leadership, partnering closely with Operations to reduce risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and build a proactive safety culture.
This role requires a data-driven, analytical approach to problem solving, using root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods to drive measurable EHS performance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Culture
• Lead and develop a team of 5 EHS professionals, including specialists in environmental compliance, safety programs, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, and EHS training.
• Drive a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across the facility
• Partner with Operations and Maintenance to integrate EHS into daily operations
Environmental Compliance (Air Permit Focus)
• Own and manage the facility’s air permit, including emissions tracking and compliance
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and MPCA regulations
• Oversee required reporting (e.g., air emissions, Tier II, TRI, hazardous waste)
• Manage environmental programs including hazardous waste, stormwater, and wastewater
Health & Safety Programs
• Oversee core safety programs (LOTO, confined space, respiratory protection, machine guarding, etc.)
• Lead incident investigations using structured root cause methodologies and implement sustainable corrective actions
• Conduct risk assessments, JHAs, and industrial hygiene monitoring (e.g., silica, noise, heat)
Systems & Continuous Improvement
• Establish EHS KPIs and drive performance improvements using data analysis, root cause problem solving, and structured continuous improvement methods
• Support or implement EHS management systems (ISO 14001 / 45001 or equivalent)
• Lead initiatives to reduce risk, emissions, and environmental impact
• Manage third-party consultants and external testing firms, including budget oversight
Minimum Education Required
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a closely related field
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of working in a metal casting facility, including standing and walking for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), and working in hot, noisy, and dusty environments
• This position may require up to 10% travel for training, audits, or corporate meetings
• 6–12+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or heavy industry
• Direct experience with air permits and environmental compliance required
• Foundry, metal casting, or similar industrial experience strongly preferred
• Leadership experience with proven ability to influence operations
• Demonstrated ability to apply data-driven, analytical problem-solving methods in an industrial environment
