Job Description
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You ll Do:
Team Leadership & Operational Support:
Lead and develop engineering resources supporting multiple manufacturing areas including additive manufacturing, paint, machine shop operations, autoclave processing, printed circuit lab, and environmental stress screening.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance management to build a high-performing, collaborative team focused on accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Ensure effective daily problem solving and escalation support for production challenges while maintaining engagement with operations.
The Engineering Manager I must demonstrate leadership capability and emotional intelligence. Success in this role requires balancing technical excellence with
interpersonal leadership to ensure the team performs while maintaining a positive and accountable culture.
Manufacturing Performance & Lean Implementation:
Lead initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, throughput, and cost through the implementation and sustainment of Lean manufacturing principles.
Establish and monitor key performance metrics for engineering and manufacturing operations, while identifying capital investment and capacity needs to support production demand.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools such as value stream mapping, standard work, and visual management.
Risk Management & Compliance:
Manage risks and opportunities within manufacturing processes and engineering programs while ensuring compliance with internal standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Oversee root cause investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained.
Capability & Technology Development:
Assess current manufacturing capabilities and identify future needs to support growth, technology adoption, and operational scalability.
Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing tools, technologies, and methods to enhance production capabilities.
Ensure proper technical planning, readiness, and risk mitigation for new processes, equipment, or manufacturing initiatives.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Prior leadership or supervisory experience leading technical or engineering teams.
Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience with Lean manufacturing or Lean Six Sigma principles.
Experience leading process improvement or operational improvement initiatives.
Problem-solving skills and experience driving root cause and corrective action.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, influence, and develop people.

A DoW Interim Secret clearance will be required to start work and required to be maintained to continue work. Higher level clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience supporting additive manufacturing or advanced manufacturing environments.
Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher).
Experience managing engineering projects or cross-functional initiatives.
Experience working in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $132962 - $226035

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
