Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Job Description
The Field Service Engineer provides expert on-site service, installation, and advanced troubleshooting for complex electro-mechanical machinery across North America, the Dominican Republic, and Canada. This role focuses on routine and emergency service, installation of machinery, customer training, and some machine assembly work. The position requires a strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting background, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service while representing the company professionally.
Responsibilities
Perform routine and emergency service on complex electro-mechanical machinery at customer sites across North America, the Dominican Republic, and Canada.
Install new machinery, including mechanical and electrical assembly, setup, calibration, and commissioning.
Conduct advanced troubleshooting on electro-mechanical systems, including pneumatics, hydraulics, servo systems, and control systems.
Diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, machine controls, and ladder logic, including making programming changes when necessary.
Interpret and use electrical and pneumatic schematics to diagnose faults and guide repairs.
Perform analysis of equipment performance and employ advanced troubleshooting techniques, including redesign of machine components when appropriate.
Build, assemble, and repair machinery, including mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, and control system integration.
Service and maintain equipment used in applications such as food and beverage, packaging, and automotive environments.
Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration equipment and refrigerated processes when required.
Provide on-site and remote training to customers on the proper operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of machinery.
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and co-workers to explain findings, recommended repairs, and system operation.
Complete detailed service reports, expense reports, and other administrative documentation accurately and on time.
Use computer, phone, and internet tools effectively to manage schedules, service documentation, and customer communication.
Collaborate with internal teams by contributing new ideas, designs, and methods to improve equipment performance and serviceability.
Exercise strong decision-making skills in the field to prioritize tasks, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction.
Maintain company-provided tools, equipment, and vehicle in a clean, safe, and operational condition.
Demonstrate initiative and drive to grow within the company and expand technical expertise over time.
Essential Skills
3–5 years of electro-mechanical troubleshooting experience on pneumatics, hydraulic, and servo motor equipment, ideally in industries such as food and beverage, packaging, or automotive.
At least 3 years of field service experience working at customer sites.
Strong electro-mechanical aptitude with proven mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
Hands-on experience troubleshooting pneumatics, servo systems, and hydraulic equipment.
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting PLCs and PLC-based control systems.
Ability to interpret and work from electrical and pneumatic schematics or a strong willingness to learn.
Proficiency with hand tools and mechanical assembly techniques.
Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly, machine building, and repair.
Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting, including analysis of system behavior and implementation of component redesigns and programming changes.
Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers and co-workers.
Customer interfacing experience with a focus on professionalism and service quality.
Computer literacy, including proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Comfort using computers, phones, and internet-based tools for communication and documentation.
Ability and willingness to travel 70–80% of the time throughout North America, the Dominican Republic, and Canada.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience working with refrigerated processes and refrigeration equipment.
Experience with filling equipment and related machinery.

Work Environment
This is a highly mobile, field-based role with approximately 70–80% travel across North America, the Dominican Republic, and Canada. Work primarily takes place at customer facilities, which may include food and beverage plants, packaging operations, automotive facilities, and environments with refrigerated processes. The role involves hands-on work with electro-mechanical machinery, including pneumatics, hydraulics, servo systems, PLC-based controls, and refrigeration equipment. You will frequently use hand tools, test equipment, and computers for diagnostics, programming, and reporting. The company provides a car, laptop, and phone to support field work and travel. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westerville, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $43.00/hr.
