HIRING: CAD Drafter – Custom MillworkJob Description
The CAD Drafter will produce accurate technical drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models for custom millwork, casework, cabinetry, and architectural fixtures used in residential, restaurant, and retail build-outs and fit-outs. This role translates architectural and design intent into production-ready documentation, supports projects from field verification through final fabrication, and works closely with design, engineering, and production teams in a casual, warehouse-based environment.
Responsibilities
Translate architectural and design intent into detailed, production-ready shop drawings that clearly illustrate how millwork components are constructed and assembled
Produce accurate technical drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models for custom millwork, cabinetry, counters, built-ins, moldings, and fixtures using AutoCAD and other drafting tools
Draft for a variety of project types, including residential spaces, restaurant environments (e.g., coffee shops), and retail build-outs and fit-outs
Conduct field visits to take precise measurements, verify site conditions, and ensure drawings align with real-world dimensions and constraints
Interpret project specifications and architectural drawings to develop compliant and buildable millwork documentation
Prepare detailed cut lists and generate information required for CNC fabrication, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Identify and resolve constructability issues, clashes, and assembly conflicts before drawings reach the shop floor
Collaborate daily with project managers, designers, engineers, and shop staff to ensure drawings align with production capabilities
Revise and update drawings in response to design changes, field conditions, or production feedback
Maintain organized and up-to-date drawing sets, documentation, and revisions across multiple active projects
Manage drafting responsibilities throughout the full project lifecycle, from field verification through final fabrication
Apply knowledge of millwork, joinery, and woodworking techniques to create practical, efficient construction details
Adhere to internal drafting standards and participate in company-provided training
Support both renovation and new construction projects, adapting drawings to existing conditions and new builds
Required Skills & Experience
3+ years of experience drafting architectural or millwork-related drawings
Strong daily proficiency in AutoCAD
Demonstrated experience producing detailed shop drawings and 3D models for millwork, cabinetry, and built-ins
Solid understanding of millwork construction, joinery, and woodworking methods
Ability to read, interpret, and create architectural and construction drawings
Familiarity with 3D modeling tools such as SketchUp or SolidWorks
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, particularly with dimensions and tolerances
Clear communication and collaboration skills
Proven reliability and ability to meet deadlines in a production-driven environment
Prior experience supporting fabrication and CNC production processes
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience in a millwork shop or fabrication environment
Experience drafting for residential, restaurant, and retail projects
Advanced 3D modeling experience using SketchUp, SolidWorks, or similar tools
Cabinetry and built-in furniture drafting experience with detailed joinery and assembly drawings
Technical degree or certification in architecture, engineering, drafting, or a related field
Comfort working in a practical, execution-focused environment rather than highly conceptual design settings
Strong organizational and documentation skills, including version control
