JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION The Senior and Principal Environmental Engineer is responsible for conducting programs to implement environmental requirements as imposed by DOE and other federal, state, or local regulatory agencies. Provide leadership on projects or programs with responsibility for developing site or project compliance strategy, performing as a liaison within the company and with regulators; planning, scheduling, and executing programs while demonstrating a high degree of judgement, expertise, and leadership in the field. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience: Grade 33: BA/BS degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related science fields Eight (8) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Grade 34: BA/BS degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related science fields Ten (10) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Ten (10) years of directly related professional experience in the field of specialization with progressive levels of responsibility coupled with measures of success required. Licenses/Certifications: Valid drivers license required. Other Requirements: Mastery knowledge of environmental compliance Developed organizational and communication skills Mastery knowledge of industry specific software applications Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Geology or Hydro geology preferred but other science and engineering degrees will be considered. Experience with environmental data monitoring and trend reporting particularly with groundwater systems. Experience in remediation, site cleanup, or waste management site. The salary and grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidates education, training, and/or relevant experience MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. Ensure compliance with DOE, other federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and requirements by developing plans and objectives which provide for project conformance. Develop assessments for conducting oversight of programs to ensure conformance and develop communication paths within the project and with regulators to formulate solutions to regulatory problems and to share solutions with other DOE projects. Develop programs (e.g., NEPA, Environmental Monitoring, RCRA) multi-year and annual objectives by analyzing regulatory needs by collaborating with customer and senior management. Develop program plans by determining activity time frames and resource needs (i.e., materials, staffing, logistics). Support the development of financial objectives by developing program budget input, input to scheduling and expenditure approval activities, analyzing variances, and recommend corrective actions. Participate in the control of program performance by developing changes to program objectives, plans, and related schedules. Support and lead team activities in department staffing of program activities by participating in and making recommendations for recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training personnel. Confirm program product by establishing performance objectives and assessing achievements. Report on program or project status by ensuring the collection, analysis, and summarization of information and trends.
