Erie 1 BOCES Substitute Teacher, Summer Program for Students with Disabilities in West Seneca, New York

Erie 1 BOCES Special Education Services Extended School Year Locations: North Site - Transit Middle (Williamsville CSD - 8730 Transit Road, East Amherst, NY 14051) Central Site - Northtowns Academy (Erie 1 BOCES - 333 Dexter Terrace, Tonawanda NY 14150) South Site - Maryvale Middle (Maryvale UFSD - 1050 Maryvale Drive, Cheektowaga, NY 14225)

Duration: 6 weeks July 1, 2026 - August 14, 2026 July 1, 2026 - July 2, 2026 - Set-up days for all programs (Staff attendance required) NOTE: All employees are expected to work the full duration of the Summer Program (6 weeks)

Daily Rate: $140 with Bachelors Degree $155 for E1B Retired Teachers/Therapists

General Responsibilities:

To provide students with disabilities with a program that will enable them to reach their fullest physical, social-emotional, psychological, behavioral, and intellectual potential.

Specific Duties: (Illustrative only; not all inclusive)

  • Assesses students, both informally and formally, in order to provide an individualized classroom program.

  • Designs and plans appropriate activities to reach individual pupil IEPs.

  • Provides an individual education program for handicapped students consistent with state education mandates and the program’s goals and requirements.

  • Establishes a classroom environment that provides for the student’s social/emotional and behavioral needs as well as academic needs including specific systems of motivation to students.

  • Assists and counsels students in making realistic assessment of their abilities in establishing educational and/or occupational goals.

  • Keeps attendance records and other reports/records pertinent to the program.

  • Provides, when warranted, continuous consultation and/or management outside of the classroom to appropriate personnel.

  • Assists other professional staff members in identifying, recommending, and resolving psychological or disciplinary actions unique to the students.

  • Confers frequently with parents, professional staff members, building level administrators, and supervisors regarding the students educational, social/emotional, psychological, behavioral, and intellectual potential.

  • When appropriate, coordinates, and supervises work experience and on-campus job-training programs involving handicapped students.

  • Participate, when appropriate, in continuous professional growth and development related to the field of teaching and/or specific area(s) of expertise.

  • Provides selected material from the 10-month school year assignment to be used for summer programming.

  • Supervises student lunch period.

  • Assists other professional staff members in promoting a team approach to solving problems that occur in the six (6) week program.

Job Qualifications

  • New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education

  • At least one (1) year of teaching experience working in Special Education desired

  • Staff with prior Summer Program experience in Erie 1 BOCES will be given preference
