WEST POINT DAIRY PRODUCTS LLC Maintenance Technician in WEST POINT, Nebraska

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Industrial Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production and facility equipment in a food manufacturing environment. Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards while minimizing downtime.

Schedule: 2nd shift / 3rd shift opportunities

Monday - Friday | 1 set day off during each week, and every other weekend (Saturday, Sunday)

Pay: $22.00 - 27.00 DOE; $1 2nd shift differential; $2 night shift differential

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production and facility equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, food safety requirements, and safety standards.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, mixers, fillers, packaging lines, and processing systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues using observation, testing equipment, and precision measuring instruments to minimize production downtime.
  • Complete operational maintenance tasks such as lubrication, painting, minor piping repairs, and valve and pump repairs.
  • Respond promptly to equipment alarms, breakdowns, and malfunctions to support continuous production and product quality.
  • Support equipment changeovers, startups, shutdowns, installations, and commissioning of new or modified equipment.
  • Perform facility and utility maintenance as applicable, including HVAC, boilers, compressed air systems, and other utility infrastructure.
  • Accurately complete work orders and document inspections, maintenance, and repairs in the CMMS in a timely manner.
  • Maintain tools, spare parts, and work areas in a clean, organized, and food-safe condition to prevent foreign material risks.
  • Follow all food safety, GMP, HACCP, sanitation, and quality requirements during maintenance activities to prevent product contamination.
  • Immediately report any food safety, quality, or regulatory concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment, which may include forklifts, scissor lifts, and floor scrubbers.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, machine guarding, and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with production, sanitation, quality, and maintenance teams to support operational and food safety goals.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending and implementing equipment, process, reliability, or energy-efficiency improvements.
  • Participate in utility upgrades, capital projects, and infrastructure improvements as assigned.
  • Backfill other maintenance or operations roles as needed to support business continuity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Able to adapt and work in a team setting as well.
  • Ability to adapt effectively within a continually changing and demanding environment.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and control system monitoring.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an ability and willingness to communicate effectively (in English) in order to maintain high levels of safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and company guidelines, written in English, in order to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to ead and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge (motors, sensors, VFDs, PLC troubleshooting a plus)
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Able to obtain licenses for and operate powered industrial equipment at a safe level.
  • Knowledge of HMI (Human/Machine Interface) systems.
  • Basic understanding of 120/240VAC electrical systems and low voltage DC and control wiring.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work from heights.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred
  • 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (food or beverage preferred)
