JOB GOALS
As Elementary Assistant Principal:
Collaborate with the building principal to effectively implement and support academic, behavioral, and instructional programs at the PK-4 level within the West Liberty Community School District. Foster a positive and supportive climate in the elementary school and work with counselors, nurses, PK-4 staff, students, and parents to build strong partnerships.
As District Special Education Director:
Lead the design, execution, supervision, and continuous improvement of special education services PK-12 across the district. Ensure compliance with federal and state special education laws, foster the use of best practices in instruction, and advocate for inclusive opportunities for all students with disabilities.
Both Roles:
Understand and proactively respond to the unique challenges and strengths of West Liberty's diverse student population, ensuring equitable access to high-quality education, interventions, and supports. Provide visionary, proactive leadership that invites engagement of all stakeholders, including students, families, staff, administrators, and community partners, to promote academic achievement, personal growth, and social/emotional well-being for all students.
MAJOR DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

In coordination with the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal:
Coordinates, facilitates, and implements attendance intervention steps, including but not limited to holding attendance conferences, making home visits, and maintaining accurate records. Contacts students and parents to discuss attendance issues.
Serves as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept.
Participates in or leads development of academic and behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies including restorative justice practices. Maintains accurate records.
Supports progressive education ideals and practices in conjunction with 21st Century learning principles.
Maintains a public relations program in the community to foster understanding and support of school programs.
Ensures effective community-staff-student relations through communication, participation, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of school-community relations activities; promotes parental and community involvement in school and district activities.
Assures efficient, effective school operation by developing/administering records, reporting requirements, interpreting policies, and ensuring long-term and day-to-day operational effectiveness.
Assists principal in recruitment, observation, and evaluation of certified and classified staff when applicable.
Ensures effective implementation of the District's strategic plan and utilizes data to achieve learning goals and objectives.
Assists principal/faculty in updating staff/student handbooks and ensuring implementation.
Shares responsibilities of organizing and supervising all major events and programs with other district leaders.
Assists in monitoring, inspection, and supervision of school facilities.
Assists in planning and implementation of the school's emergency preparedness plans.
Ensures adherence to all State and Federal laws, contracts, Board policy, and district/school regulations by all students, staff, and community members; interprets and implements these for West Liberty's diverse community.
Attends administrative and Board of Education meetings as required; participates in various leadership team meetings as assigned.
Serves as principal in the absence of the building principal.
Assumes other duties as assigned.
As District Special Education Director:
Leads the coordination, supervision, and ongoing development of special education programs and services PK-12.
Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations regarding special education.
Develops, implements, and monitors Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for eligible students.
Collaborates with general education and special education staff to provide inclusive and equitable learning opportunities.
Provides professional development, support, and guidance to staff regarding special education law, best practices, instructional strategies, and accommodations.
Oversees the evaluation, placement, and re-evaluation processes for students suspected of having disabilities.
Serves as the primary liaison between the district and Iowa Department of Education for special education matters.
Collaborates with district school business official on special education budgets, resources, and grants; coordinates with outside agencies and service providers.
Ensures regular communication and partnership with families of students with disabilities.
Advocates for inclusive practices and ensures the meaningful participation of students with disabilities in all district programs and activities.
Maintains accurate documentation and reporting related to compliance and student outcomes.
Responds to parent and staff concerns regarding special education processes, services, and student needs.
Leads the district in strategic planning and continuous improvement related to special education and supports for students with diverse learning needs.

Starting salary: $85,000
