SCHMIDT AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES LLC Farm Worker/Crop Laborer (Temporary) in WEST JORDAN, Utah
Temporary Need: 03/27/26 - 11/10/26. Four (4) full-time, seasonal, temporary Farm Workers/Crop Laborers needed.
Work will perform at the following locations: West Jordan.
All worksites within the mile radius are located in Davis, Toole, Salt Lake and Utah Counties. Delivery/Storage worksites are located within a 25- mile radius of the place of employment are located in Davis, Toole, Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
Applicants must have 2 months of agricultural work experience and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid Drivers License as driving on public roads may be required. Wage is $12.48/hr. H-2A workers $10.64/hr.
Will work 42 hrs./wk., Mon-Sat, 7:30am - 4:30pm.
Duties:
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of vegetables starts, small potted plants, bedding plants, hanging baskets, corn, tomatoes, peppers, squash, cantaloupe, watermelons, melons, pumpkins, beans, broccoli, cucumbers, cover crops, and alfalfa for the majority of the workdays in the overall contract period, commensurate with the duties encompassed within the five SOC Codes comprising the field and livestock workers (combined) category.
General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: carry out Team Lead tasks as directed by employer/foreman/supervisor; maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; perform general cleanup of farm areas, greenhouse, orchards, and/or fields; drive, load/unload farm trucks; transport crops to market; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Flood Irrigation: lift gate in side of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into bordered section of field; shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow; close gate in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded; open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir or ditch; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates.
Drip Irrigation: move and lay drip irrigation equipment in fields; install plastic pipe; attach lines to water supply; turn valves to start flow of water; maintain/repair drip irrigation; flush drip irrigation lines; remove drip irrigation and layflat from fields prior to harvest; walk behind tractor to ensure layflat spools correctly when removing from field.
Will be expected to apply specific horticultural techniques as instructed by the employer in order to perform the following: prepare fields/plant/spray/weed and irrigate plants/shrubs/trees; sow seed and plan t cuttings; recognize disease and/or nutrient/moisture requirements by plant texture/development or soil condition; observe general condition of plants and apply the appropriate care; mix planting soil; water plants by hand using hoses; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; harvest, pack, and store crop; maintain and repair structures/grounds; haul and spread soil/products to condition land; plant shrubs/plants in containers; prepare flowers/plants/shrubs/trees to fill orders; prepare crops for shipment; clean fields after harvest.
Job duties related to the production of produce will include the foll wing: hand weed in and between rows of crops; pick crop; harvest, sort, and gather crop by hand; place crip in buckets or bags; attach harness, bucket or bag and pick low hinging fruit while standing or on a ladder; identify and remove crop that is misshapen, damaged, or inferior; prevent bruising of crop or braking of branches; prepare plastic growing beds; harvest crops into packaging; tie crops into specified size bunches, using wires or rubber bands; load crops on trucks or field conveyers; hand crop off to or receive from another workers for placement in boxes located on trailers; place crop in boxes located on trailers.
Duties related to the packing of produce will include the following: will apply techniques as instructed by the employer to: sort produce according to grade, color and size; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product/ and foreign matter; place produce in containers or on designated conveyors; move goods by hand or with pallet jack.
Terms and Conditions of Employment: Tools, room, board, kitchen facilities and transportation provided at no cost to workers. Workers must be available for the entire work period. Workers are required to keep all property, housing, and farm buildings clean, and must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor; employee must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision; absences from work and/or failure to perform required tasks will not be tolerated. Must be able to provide employment eligibility documentation (I9 verification) upon hire. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer. If, before the expiration date specified in the work contract, the services of the worker are no longer required for reasons beyond my control due to fire, weather, or other Act of God that makes the fulfillment of the contract impossible, I may terminate the work contract. Whether such an event constitutes a contract impossibility will be determined by the CO. In the event of such termination of a contract, I must fulfill a three-fourths guarantee for the time that has elapsed from the start of the work contract to the time of its termination, as described in paragraph (!)(1) of section 20 CFR sec. 655.122(0). I must make efforts to transfer the worker to other comparable employment acceptable to the worker, consistent with existing immigration law, as applicable. If such trans fer is not affected, I must: (1) Return the worker, at my expense, to the place from which the worker (disregarding intervening employment) came to work for me, or transport the worker to the worker's next certified H- 2A employer, whichever the worker prefers; (2) Reimburse the worker the full amount of any deductions made from the worker's pay by me for transportation and subsistence expenses to the place of employment and (3} Pay the worker for any costs incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence to my place of employment. Daily subsistence must be computed as set forth in paragraph (h) of this section. The amount of the transportation payment must not be less (and is not required to be more) than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved ($16.28/day, maximum $68/day with receipts).
