Job Description
Southeastern Community College Center for Business ( CBIZ ) is seeking a Part-time CDL Instructor for Community and Correctional Programs.
The Part Time CDL Instructor supports the administration, coordination, and instructional delivery of Class A and B Commercial Driver License training programs The Part‑Time CDL Instructor provides high‑quality training for both general public learners and justice‑involved individuals at Southeastern Community College campus, Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility ( MPCF ) and local halfway houses. This role delivers entry‑level Class A & B CDL training through classroom, simulator‑based, and hands‑on instruction in accordance with FMCSA requirements, DOT and State regulations, and SCC / DOC policies.
The instructor promotes positive learning, supports student success, and prepares individuals for meaningful employment upon release or program completion. This position requires professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to work safely and effectively within correctional and community settings.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Deliver CDL -A and CDL -B classroom and simulator instruction aligned with FMCSA Entry Level Driver Training ( ELDT ) standards.
Provide classroom, group, and one-on-one instruction to general public learners, halfway house residents, and individuals incarcerated at MPCF students.
Ensure full compliance with Federal, State, DOT , MPCF , and DOC regulations and safety expectations.
Maintain Safety oversight during all training, evaluations, and simulator activities.
Maintain FMCSA Training Provider Registry status.
Assess student skills, progress, and proficiency in simulated driving tasks.
Provide coaching, feedback and retraining as needed.
Assist with enrollment, progress tracking, and connections to SCC / DOC resources.
Collaborate with the CDL Coordinator, CBIZ staff, and IET instructors to maintain and update training materials.
Assist with lesson planning, curriculum updates, and instructional materials.
Oversee the use and upkeep of simulator equipment and training tools.
Attend meetings, onboarding sessions, and professional development activities.
Maintain accurate documentation, attendance, grades and reports
Notify Coordinator‑Liaison and facility staff of student concerns or incidents
Contribute to program procedures, improvement efforts, and required reporting.
Complete DOC security training and SCC / DOC Orientations
Working Conditions and Expectations
Conduct training at SCC campus, community training locations, MPCF , and halfway house facilities
Attend SCC and DOC / MPCF orientations
Work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed
Travel throughout the district as required
Maintain professional representation of SCC , DOC , and CBIZ at all times.
Required Qualifications
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.
Valid Class A license of at least one year and at least five years of CDL Class A or B driving experience
High school diploma or GED required
Current DOT Medical Card and ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.
Ability to handle confidential matters with professional integrity.
Ability to Follow SCC and DOC (department and facility) policies and procedure
Teaching and training experience preferred.
Ability to organize and deliver learning activities.
Ability to understand federal and state program guidelines.
Flexible, adaptable, and professional attitude and presentation.
Commitment to safety and compliance with all training rules and regulations.
Willingness to complete required grading, paperwork, attendance, progress reports, and documentation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to conduct basic research.
Ability to work collaboratively with other team members
Ability to work respectively and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
