Job Description
The instructor at Southeastern Community College provides educational services as assigned, in accordance with general college guidelines, board policies, and administrative guidelines. The individual instructor is the key to the successful accomplishment of the college’s educational goals. His/her attitude, personality, knowledge, skills, and motivation contribute to the creation of an effective learning environment. Familiarity with the comprehensive community college philosophy is highly desired.
There will be one position located at the Keokuk Campus and one position located at the West Burlington Campus; however, assignments may include all SCC locations, including off-campus sites. This is a 16-week contract position (August 17–December 11), with the possibility of renewal for the spring term. The position requires approximately 6–8 hours per week on campus, typically between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The pay rate is $40 per hour.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Experience motivating, interacting, and effectively communicating with students, faculty, administration, industry, and the general public in a civil and respectful manner.
Lead preparations to instruct curricula related to the IGNITE program, including use of the Amatrol portable trainers, Computer Lab, and Amatrol Online Learning Management System.
Assess student performance in courses taught by the instructor
Plan, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate.
Meet with classes regularly and promptly, maintain student attendance records.
Demonstrate a willingness to work with others as a team member.
Implement varied and/or supplemental learning activities to accommodate individual student needs.
Consult with supervisor to order equipment and supplies, arrange for delivery and set-up, and maintain all equipment and tools to ensure compliance with national, state and lab safety requirements.
Review IGNITE educational materials and develop supplies list identifying consumables, and other tools required for instruction.
Promptly report unsafe practices, in and out of the classroom, in accordance with college policies and guidelines.
Conscientiously comply and support the Family Educations Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ) and SCC’s Affirmative Action Plan.
Model professional behaviors, values and attitudes for students, colleagues and the community.
Course assignments may include responsibility for planning and conducting on-the-job experiences applicable to course content.
Required Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma is required
AA degree or AAS degree preferred
Experience
Relevant experience working with high school age students and a foundational knowledge in Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical/Controls Engineering Technology, Robotics, or closely related field
Preferred to have foundational knowledge in:
AC/DC industrial electricity
Electrical schematic reading and control panel wiring
Mechanical systems and power transmission
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Industrial safety standards and practices
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Candidates are not expected to demonstrate mastery of all areas listed but must possess a willingness to continue developing technical expertise aligned with program needs.
