Job Title: Concrete Worker (Assistants and Finishers)

Job Description

This role supports commercial and industrial construction projects, including new builds and renovations, as well as municipal work on bridges, trails, pump stations, and roads in the Wernersville, PA and Berks County area. You will transport materials, assist with setting and stripping forms, help mix and place concrete, and, depending on experience, perform hand finishing to deliver high-quality concrete flatwork and structures. The position involves physically demanding work on active construction sites, both indoors and outdoors, as part of a skilled and close-knit field team.

Responsibilities

  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment safely to and from work areas on commercial and industrial job sites.

  • Assist concrete workers and finishers with daily tasks, including preparing work areas and organizing materials.

  • Set, align, brace, and strip concrete forms and formwork according to project specifications.

  • Assist with mixing, placing, pouring, and consolidating concrete for slabs, flatwork, and structural elements.

  • For finisher roles, perform hand finishing of concrete surfaces, including troweling, edging, floating, and finishing to specified textures and tolerances.

  • Support concrete pours by helping manage concrete placement, vibration, and finishing sequence.

  • Use hand tools and basic carpentry skills to aid in forming, framing, and related construction activities.

  • Lift, carry, and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.

  • Follow directions from site supervisors and experienced finishers to ensure safe and efficient execution of tasks.

  • Use and maintain personal tools required for concrete and construction work.

  • Comply with all site safety rules, including the use of required personal protective equipment and adherence to company and DOT safety standards.

  • Travel to local job sites within Berks County and surrounding areas as assigned.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with site cleanup at the end of each shift.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of prior commercial construction experience working for a construction company; excavating or concrete experience preferred for assistant roles.

  • For concrete finisher roles, a minimum of 5+ years of commercial concrete finishing experience, specifically hand finishing (not machine-only).

  • Proven experience in commercial construction environments, including working on active job sites.

  • Hands-on experience with concrete forming, pouring, and finishing in a commercial or residential setting.

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on a regular basis and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the day.

  • Valid driver’s license in good standing to travel to various job sites.

  • Current DOT physical card to meet driving and site access requirements.

  • Ability to pass required background and drug screening processes.

  • Ownership of appropriate personal tools for concrete and construction work.

  • Ability to work safely and efficiently on construction sites, following directions and adhering to safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial concrete construction, including flatwork, slabs, and structural elements.

  • background in residential concrete work that can transfer to commercial projects.

  • Experience with concrete forming, formwork, and setting forms for various types of pours.

  • Hands-on skills in carpentry related to concrete form building and bracing.

  • Proficiency with trowels and other hand tools used for concrete finishing and flatwork.

  • Experience with concrete pours, including assisting with placement and finishing operations.

  • Familiarity with working on municipal projects such as bridges, trails, pump stations, and roads.

  • Comfort working in a construction labor capacity, supporting multiple trades as needed.

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn from experienced concrete professionals.

Work Environment

The work takes place on commercial and industrial construction sites in and around Wernersville, PA and throughout Berks County. You will work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, on active construction sites that require consistent awareness of safety practices. The role is physically demanding and involves standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing manual labor for extended periods. You will work with concrete-related tools and equipment, including hand tools for forming and finishing, trowels, and basic carpentry tools. The environment is collaborative and field-focused, with crews working together to complete projects for industrial, commercial, and municipal clients. Typical schedules follow standard construction hours, with the expectation of punctuality and readiness to work in appropriate construction attire and personal protective equipment as required by the site.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wernersville, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $32.00/hr.
